Two landmark pieces of legislation to deliver direct action on climate change have been passed by the Queensland Parliament.
“Government has an obligation to secure the economic, social and environmental prosperity of this state. That’s an obligation I take seriously,” Premier Steven Miles said.
“Through our landmark Energy and Jobs Plan, we set a vision for securing a clean economy future and the 100,000 new jobs that will be created.

The Queensland Government has announced the introduction of a renewable energy code of conduct.
The code, which will be co-designed with stakeholders, will ensure renewable energy developers engage genuinely with landholders and communities when developing, building and operating new generation and storage projects.

The Electricity Industry Amendment Bill 2023 has passed Parliament, creating the power to extend protections to all electricity customers.
“This Bill represents a significant step forward for electricity customers in Western Australia,” Energy Minister Reece Whitby said.

Pure Hydrogen has signed a lease on a 4000m2 commercial site at Archerfield Airport in Queensland to develop a green hydrogen micro-hub.
This is the first step in the company’s aim to develop a number of ‘CAPEX light’ micro-hubs that can produce green hydrogen using green electricity sourced from the grid.
Pure Hydrogen has placed an order for an electrolyser which will be combined with compression and storage facilities to manufacture and sell green hydrogen.

The company reported an increase in its quarterly average production and revenue during the March quarter, underpinned by stronger production at Orbost.
According to Cooper Energy’s managing director and chief executive officer Jane Norman, performance in January and February was particularly strong, with several records set across varying time periods including 67.3 terajoules/day (TJ/d) across a single day and 55.8 TJ/d across 60 days.

The Federal Government has opened consultations on the design features of a scheme aimed at bringing new renewable capacity to suit the Western Australian energy grid.
The first WA tender will target 500MW of reliable renewables by storing power that is available to dispatch when needed.

Origin Energy Limited has entered into an agreement with Virya Energy to acquire its Yanco Delta Wind Farm, one of the largest and most advanced wind and energy storage projects in New South Wales.
