We are looking into a new payroll provider and one of the candidates is Alight. We have Oracle HCM and it needs to seamlessly integrate. Does anyone have experience with Alight and the integration with Oracle HCM? submitted by /u/RalJans [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Unable to connect to Primevera database

Hi, I'm writting here because I can't get a hold with customer support. When trying to connect to my database and simply login. The program says unable to connect to database. So, I look into it and the database seems to be gone from our servers. No one ever played with the files or anything. We regularly open it, work with it and close. Now it can't open anymore. Is there a way to restore the database, what are my options here. Thank you. submitted by /u/CrazY_KinG009 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Oracle and Java licencing

A 3rd party has written a Java class which reads from an Oracle database. They have used free OpenJDK to develop and build. When they provide us with the class, they say they will not distribute ojdbc8.jar, saying that since we are a licensed Oracle customer, we will have ojdbc8.jar and a JRE with SQL Developer, and that should cover the licensing. Is this correct? submitted by /u/ProWest665 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Oracle Free Tier is a joke

I have been trying for months to create an account, I make sure all info is 100% same with bank and always get rejected at credit card verification. Emailed support multiple times and always get "Unfortunately, we are unable to resolve this. This is all the information we can provide." What is the point of "offering" free services if you gatekeep it at sign up and even if you get lucky and get passed the sign up I hear people being stuck for months before they are able to create a VPS at their home region. submitted by /u/SatoshiMoon [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Which programming language should I learn?

Heya! It's me again with more questions ?. So, I was looking at internal positions at work for OCI and a majority want someone that has strong programming skills. I've been recreationally doing stuff with Python (small RPG type games for my kids). However, most positions are requiring a Java or C++ programming language instead. When asked if Python would be acceptable the answer was more or less a no. So, I'm a bit confused because I always thought that cloud computing used Python as the primary language? If I'm wrong then that's okay. I'm more worried that Java isn't beginnerish friendly. Wi ..read more

I've been browsing the Oracle docs for Java AWT and Swing for a school project. However all images in following webpages are not loading. Upon inspection, all images have 404 not found response. The webpages in question are: (i • A Visual Guide to Layout Managers • How to Use Borders • How to Use Menus Does anyone experience the same or know full PDF documentation? submitted by /u/0rubber_band [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Strapped for time with that long running import ? Try this

I use TOAD to extract the code for any DB object. The last few steps of import can be done quickly - once the process gets to the CONSTRAINTS section, kill_job via attach session. Then, take the code for constraints, alter VALIDATE to NOVALIDATE for all, and execute. Obtain SQL for triggers and jobs, and you are done ! submitted by /u/km_44 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

No more patching for us, eh ?

Our DBA team manager (small company, they promoted this guy from the APP side) has decided that our 19c databases don't need to be patched. v19.3 is just fine, after we had an export that hung after a patch. 100 other DBs without a problem after patching, and then THAT happened. No more patching for us ! Sound like a plan ? submitted by /u/km_44 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Troubles installing Oracle Instant Client

I'm trying to install Instant Client with Sqlplus and SDK, using these two instructions as reference: https://apextips.blogspot.com/2019/09/installing-oracle-instant-client-on.html https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Oracle%20Instant%20Client Using the shell script from the first link, I don't really get much indication if things went ok or not, and I am unable to run sqlplus afterwards (have tried restarting terminal and even system). It just says sqlplus: command not found, so presumably something is wrong with regards to env variables? With the second link, I have tried multiple RPM download ..read more
