If you are following 31 Ways To Celebrate The Holidays By Helping Animals, you know that today is all about providing hospice foster care (fospice) for shelter animals. While sharing a long, happy life with an animal is a wonderful thing (the best), spending a few months, days, or even hours with a dog or cat who has never known kindness or love is just as amazing. It's all about living in the moment and rewriting their story with a happy ending - helping homeless animals leave the world knowing they are safe, cherished, and finally home. You get back way more than you give and some pretty go ..read more

It's easy to get overwhelmed and feel defeated in the face of pet overpopulation, homelessness, and cruelty. To combat these feelings, I decided to compile a list of simple yet impactful wa ..read more

I am a Non-DIY Dog Mom. I am a decent cook, but a terrible baker. I can paint but I can’t sew, knit or make other clever crafty things. Anything that requires following directions or even worse, planning, forget it, not fun. When I am feeling creative, I just want to go with the flow and see what happens. I am a proud "just wing-it" kind of person and that doesn't really fly with DIY. But sometimes we must put aside our principles for the greater good. This week we celebrated Ruby's four year anniversary with our family. The internet is filled with photos and videos of dogs eating cake, cooki ..read more

We are a multi-pet, multi-species home - rabbit, cat, dog, mice, humans - a mostly furry melting pot of pets, sharing space, trying to peacefully co-exist. Over the last twenty years, we have had LOTS of animals pass through our home (or yard in the case of feral cats). Most were fosters and went on to find homes of their own. There is clearly a sign in our yard that reads "food and shelter" with an arrow pointing to our back door. My base crew has always been remarkably accepting of newcomers. Yes, we still have misunderstandings (because cats and dogs are different and rabbits are even MOR ..read more
