OAC Analysis Column HTML Content and Custom URL Description

I’ve been building out an internal tool for the past few days and today I wanted to display a column that had URL/HTML/download links for some PDFs, PowerPoints, etc that I uploaded to OCI Object Storage and created a Pre-Authenticated Request (PAR) for access. I loaded everything into a table in my ADW instance as follows: Next, I wanted to take this URL column and display it in an OAC Analysis, but without the really long PAR link. The process in OAC is a bit different than OBIEE, so I wanted to document it here for reference. The first thing you need to do is go to your Console from the ho ..read more

Steps to create an Essbase 21c instance isn’t too much different from 19c, but it is simpler as you do not need to manually encrypt passwords or client secrets any longer. I did not add narrative to this process; just screenshots. Narratives can be found on the 19c instance creation site: https://realtrigeek.com/2020/04/24/creating-an-essbase-19c-stack-on-the-oci-marketplace/ Essbase 21c Instance CreationDownload ..read more

Essbase 19c Error Using LCM Utility

Last week I was working with a customer to migrate an Essbase cube from 11g to 19c. He was using the LCM Export Utility that is included in 19c, but was getting this error: Error Messages: 1.No planning project found in import.xml.; Information Messages: The configured temporary directory is [/u01/tmp]. The directory for export/import operations is [/u01/tmp/3z2g7r9p] Found ZIP format exported using EPM Automate tool. A couple things were puzzling as (1) this was a pure Essbase cube (Hyperion Planning was not even installed at the customer) and (2) EPM Automate was not used since it, most def ..read more

Utilizing Presentation Variables in OAC
Real Tri Geek

This is another post brought on by a question from a customer-friend. Can we use 1 prompt to filter data amongst different data sources and pages? YES! A simple example… I have the same data in an Essbase cube, MonthlyFinancials. I have a relational table in ADW called FINANCIALS. I want a dashboard prompt to filter for Year and Period. The first thing to do is create a Dashboard Prompt. The key here will be to give your Presentation Variable a name to be referenced in the other Analyses to be created. Next, create your analysis to your first data source. Create a filter for your first variab ..read more

Case Study: Oracle Analytics Cloud Migration from DBCS to ADW Sourced

Background In 2018, I was working with a customer on sizing out an environment for analytics. They had QlikView already as well as some manual and ad hoc reporting Excel (and, I cringe, some side Access databases) but were looking for a solution that offered scalability as they wanted to expand reporting to field management. The customer desired enterprise analytics functionality (data modeling, dashboards, self-service reporting, single version of truth, etc) to report on their multiple data sources. For the data warehouse, we chose to go with 8 OCPUs (Oracle CPUs) of DBCS – High Performance ..read more

Using Essbase SubVars as Filters in OAC
Real Tri Geek

I had a question from a ‘customer friend’, Sam, ask about how we can utilize values in Essbase SubVars as variables in OAC Analyses and Dashboards. Here’s how you do it… Just to validate, the SubVars are located in Essbase on the “Variables” tab at either the database or application level (application level shown below). In your OAC RPD, open the variables screen by clicking “Manage” -> “Variables”. You will see under “Initialization Blocks” a line starting with “SUB_VAR_BLOCK…”. Right-click and choose “Properties” to edit that variable. You can rename this if you would like. Also, the “Va ..read more

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) CLI “NotAuthenticated” Error
Real Tri Geek

If you are logging into OCI CLI and trying to run a script, but are getting a “NotAuthenticated” error, here’s what it likely means… You likely have more than one tenancy or you can log into your tenancy with more than 1 user assigned to you. This error occurs because the config file on your machine for OCI CLI is for another tenancy and/or user. Some basics… This is what your config file looks like when opening in a text editor: [DEFAULT] -> the OCI config entry name. This one is created by default (duh). user= -> the OCID of the user logging into a tenancies OCI. This can be found on ..read more

Creating an Essbase 19c Stack on the OCI Marketplace

Note: This process has been verified on for Essbase 19.3.0.2.0 Build 362. The process to build out an Essbase stack can be a tedious process, but it’s rather quick (around 1 hour) and builds out the ENTIRE instance, not just one piece. So it’s recorded for anyone out there, this is a basic installation (no load balancers, networks, etc). I recommend having a text editor handy to record various, important pieces to the stack creation. Generate a ssh key. I have chosen to have this key stored in the default location. Add a specific Essbase Admin user in the Users section. Give the new user ..read more
