To tell the truth, a lot of us that sort of know what it is still don’t know exactly what it is. You know? No? It’s many things—most of which are really weird—is what we’re saying. Even if you have no interest in ever experiencing the aforementioned weirdness, we guarantee that your kids are crazy about it. For that reason alone, you should learn the basics – both for online safety and the f ..read more

What is Signal app? Should you leave WhatsApp for it?
Ting | Mobile apps

If you’re a WhatsApp user, you’ll have seen a pop-up notification from the app referencing a privacy update. For those of us that clicked through, the content was far from clear, but many people interpreted it as a change in policy resulting in personal information being shared with WhatsApp’s parent company, Facebook. The result has been a wave of user uproar, and a rise in popularity of alternative messaging apps—most notably Signal. Still, for many of us, there are more questions than answers. Is WhatsApp now giving all our information to Facebook for advertising purposes? What is Signal ap ..read more

While we don’t want to generalize, it’s fair to say that seniors and technology are not always the best of friends. At the same time, one piece of technology we most certainly want our older relatives to have is a mobile phone. It’s an important safety consideration in case of emergencies and allows them to stay connected with their loved ones. There are smartphones specifically designed for seniors out there, minimalist phones like the Light Phone and the Palm Phone, and some older phone users prefer to stick with “dumb” phones. If you’ve got an extra Android phone lying around, however, you ..read more

You see, Instagram isn’t all pictures of dogs, boomerangs of glasses clinking and videos of snowboard bails. In fact, and this may shock some of you, a lot of people like to argue on social media.  Who knew?! Arguing with someone on such a vast, public platform has its drawbacks though. How do you ensure that your sw ..read more

Well, that’s not going to work.  Sure, binging every movie in the Scream franchise is both a great way to get hyped for Halloween and totally reasonable use of one’s time, Dad. These days, though, tracking down the hottest Halloween-themed games and apps might just be the best way to get yourself in the mood for the big night. We’ve done the legwork, and have put together a list of the spookiest, and in some cases kookiest, horr ..read more

Save yourself the spam call headache with Hiya Everybody hates spam calls. Beyond those annoying “you won a cruise” messages that interrupt your day and clog your voicemail, scammers can use your phone number in phishing schemes and even trick you into giving up precious personal information. Luckily, when it comes to blocking spam and flagging unwanted numbers, you’ve got options. We like the app Hiya | Android | iOS | because it serves numbers with a side of context. Hiya gives bit more information about numbers outside of your contact list, flagging them as likely spam, a colleague from wor ..read more
