The Department of Home Affairs released the latest immigration updates on 8 February 2024.
The Gazette dealt with several proposed changes to the Immigration Act, of which the most notable is the introduction of a work visa points system and a remote working visa.
The public can comment on the Gazette until 29 March 2024. Anyone who’d like to submit comments can send an email to Luvo.Vena@dha.gov.za.

In March 2023, the Department of Home Affairs issued a blanket visa extension to visa and waiver applicants. The extension’s expiry date was 31 December 2023.
On 21 December 2023, Home Affairs announced that it is granting a further extension of the visa concessions. At the time, Home Affairs said it hoped to address the impact of processing backlogs on foreign nationals with visa, waiver, and appeal applications.

On 29 November 2023, Minister Aaron Motsoaledi gave ZEP holders an early Christmas gift with the announcement of a ZEP visa extension and a new exemption visa that’ll enable them to remain in South Africa until 2025.

On 13 April 2023, the Department of Home Affairs released a Directive that eases radiological and police clearance certificate requirements for temporary and permanent residency applicants.
Radiological reports are no longer required
Home Affairs has abolished the requirement of a radiological report for visa applicants. That means it’s no longer necessary for temporary and permanent residency applicants to submit these reports with their visa applications.
