Let me start this post by saying,  This final reveal is soooo long overdue. Sorry! The funny thing about it all is I actually thought I would have a spare moment once everything was done and my shop was up and running.  I couldn’t have been more wrong—the hard work just began. Grand opening day was an exciting one. I couldn’t believe we had a line up out the door. Everything that possibly could go wrong, went wrong that first day. Our AC stopped wor ..read more

Things are moving real fast at Project Whimsy. As I write this blog post, we’re just about finished our reno project and ready to open our doors to the public. Looking back at where we started, this transformation has been a big one. I can’t wait to share the before and after photos with you guys. In the meantime, let me show you some of the final last details we put in the space. The tile wall behind the counter is up. I thought the best way to jazz up white penny rounds is with coloured grout. I found this awesome company, Grout360, who can customize grout colours. When they ..read more

Prior to starting this ice cream store project, I used to fantasize about this big endeavour. I went through great lengths on what I wanted to serve, how I was going to operate and what I wanted my shop to look like. Fast forward to this present day and I still have to pinch myself—I’ve never acted on an idea this crazy and, this big before. Although, many things have changed since my initial thoughts (which, began almost two years ago), the one thing that remains unchanged is my vision for the shop. I knew exactly what I wanted the decor of the ice cream store to look like, in parti ..read more

Our New Karndean Floor

I will be the first to say that picking a floor is a huge decision. There’s no getting around it, that’s for sure. The pressure to choose the right type of product, on top of nailing down your exact design style, are some pretty major choices to make at the start of a project. That’s why I went into heavy research mode when it came to choosing a new floor for my unit. I needed to make sure I was installing something durable enough for commercial use. After a visit to the Karndean showroom (which, you can read all about in my previous post), I had everything I needed to make a final ..read more

Is Vinyl Flooring a Good Choice?

One of the first things I did when I signed the lease to my new shop was go on the hunt for new flooring options. We all remember the mold invested carpet, right? BEFOREWhen designing a commercial (or residential) space, durability is key to choosing a product for your floor. Things such as weather and moisture resistant, durability against high traffic and wear, low maintenance, and of course, stylish enough to enhance the appearance of a space, are all important things to consider. When I came across Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), I was surprised that it was the fastest growing global floor ..read more

DIY: How To Update Old Ceiling Tile

It never fails. I’m always amazed at watching a space transform right before my eyes. This is my favourite part about home (or in this case leasehold) improvements. The vision is finally coming alive! In my last post, I introduced you to the most amazing ceiling tile ever, Genesis Waterproof Ceiling Panels. This is the product I specifically sourced out to help me revamp our old dated ceiling system. Just take a look at the night and day difference. If you’re wondering “did she brighten the after photo?”, the answer is “no“. With the walls primed, the florescent lights removed a ..read more

Old, Dated Ceiling Tile—No Problem!
Pink Little Notebook, a DIY Home Improvement Blog

Nothing makes this unit scream old and dated then the dingy ceiling tile, fluorescent lights and carpet. While this combination is a staple in most professional buildings (and some older homes)—the good news is that a modern update is completely feasible. At Project Whimsy, the ceiling is a tell-tale sign of the aging building. There is a ton of wear and tear evident by damaged tiles and discolouration. Even the once white ceiling grid has turned an awful graying yellow colour. I knew this ceiling had to go from day one. What I didn’t know was there was no need to completely rip it dow ..read more

I never in a million years thought I would be going into the ice cream business, but here I am! I feel like I can write a novel about the excitement and fear I’m experiencing. I find myself nervously laughing a lot, you know the “what have I gotten myself into?” laugh. And then other days, I whisper to myself “you got this girl!”. It’s different each day. Maybe when this mad rush is over, I’ll go more into detail about what lead me to this path but for now, since this is a design blog, let’s jump right into the fun stuff. This is the interior of my new shop. Yup, it needs a ..read more

This post may come as a complete shock to some. But I have some pretty exciting news to share with you guys. As some of you may have noticed, there have been a lack of projects happening around here at Pink Little Notebook. And I have a good reason for that—I’ve been working on a new business venture for the last year and half. Curious yet?!? Well… I’m officially announcing that I’m putting the home renovations on hold to open an ice cream shop! Yup, you heard right! Say hello to my new baby, WHIMSY. I know how totally random this may sound to some. This is not your ty ..read more
