Miracle Sight Adjuster: Sight Punch vs. Sight Drifter
My Gun Culture
by Tom McHale

I’ve always wanted to try one of these as it’s somewhat difficult, bordering on impossible for mere non-gunsmith mortals, to adjust a tight steel front or rear sight without making a mess of either the sight or the punch. Roy Huntington shares a seemingly simple, yet ingenious, tool for adjusting sights that’ll leave you wondering, “Why didn’t I think of that?” READ MORE: Sight Punch vs. Sight Drifter – American Handgunner: The post Miracle Sight Adjuster: Sight Punch vs. Sight Drifter first appeared on My Gun Culture ..read more

Apparatus Insignis: Remington’s Double Derringer, An Idea Too Good To Die
My Gun Culture
by Tom McHale

From a new regular column in American Handgunner, the Apparatus Insignis feature dives into the history, engineering, functions and obscura of interesting guns from the past and sometimes present. You know a firearm is iconic when it represents an entire class of weapons. Such is the case with a little two-shot, over-and-under .41 Short Rimfire, variously called a Remington Model 95, Remington-Elliot Derringer, Remington Double Derringer, or most commonly, simply … a derringer. Most of us know it from Western genre cinema and television, but it was famous before motion pictures. Its design was ..read more

Your Best Defense During Civil Unrest
My Gun Culture

I met Steve some years ago. He’s one of those gray man guys you’d never give a asecond look, but he also has one of those backgrounds that make you stop and listen to what is has to say. You know, the guys in the background of event photos with Presidents and foreign dignitaries. In that environment, you’ve already lost if you have to draw a gun, so I’ve always found is take on personal defense not only interesting, but supremely valuable. Here’s a useful bit of advice on your best defense strategy during civil unrest. Read More: Your Best Defense During Civil Unrest – American Handgunner The ..read more

Trijicon RCR Red Dot
My Gun Culture

There are real benefits to a full-enclosed red dot sight where the emitter is not exposed to the world at large. Rain, snow and even lint easily make their way into the tiny nooks and crannies where the magic light exits the computer to be beamed onto the glass itself. An equally real first-world problem is the inside surface of the glass on traditional optics tends to collect dust and it’s tough to reach for proper cleaning. A Non-Binary Look at Carrying with an Empty Chamber
My Gun Culture
by Tom McHale

If you carry concealed with an empty chamber, you will die a horrible death, and that Korean boy band with pink and blue hair, BTS, will sing your eulogy. #Fact. OK, so maybe that’s not a sure thing, but if you listen to a discussion on the topic, the opinions can get heated. I fall on the “carry with one in there” crowd for a few reasons we’ll discuss, but here’s the most important factor. You need to make that decision based on how the pros and cons rank based on your lifestyle and daily activities. The Acorn That Started a Shootout
My Gun Culture
by Tom McHale

So, I won’t spoil the whole story, but just suppose, an acorn fell from a tree, starting an officer shortly after capturing a suspect. Then the magazine dumps begin, calls for backup and “officer down” start going out. And then… the facts become clear through the fog of, well, in this case, all out war. My counterparts in crime (you know, committing journalism) Brent Wheat (Editor, Guns Magazine) and Erick Gelhaus (Editor, American Cop) discuss this incident, both the utter ridiculousness and the underlying reasons why it’s not necessary as crazy as it looks. The Vudoo Gun Works Möbius 1911 Pistol: Premium Guns Made Different
My Gun Culture

I ran across the folks at Vudoo Gun Works a little over a year ago and was intrigued by their manufacturing approach. The company makes high-end guns but has come up with some interesting manufacturing techniques to bring the price point down. Make no mistake, you’ll still pay a pretty penny for a very nice gun, but had it been made using more traditional techniques, you’d be adding a grand or so to the price. How to Bypass Woke Companies Putting Politics Before Business
My Gun Culture
by Tom McHale

I had an interesting conversation with Dusty Wunderluch of Credova while at SHOT Show 2024. Dusty is in the business of… doing business. Yes, that’s precisely what I mean. Lots of folks are becoming sick and tired of companies more concerned with political missions and forcing their social views on others and wondering, “Why can’t companies just focus on their business instead of stepping into that mess? Why do they insist on alienating half the country, one way or the other?” Whatever side you’re on, perhaps we can agree that it would be nifty if manufacturers focused on… making things. Holster Tips: Things You Learn From The Box O’ Holsters
My Gun Culture
by Tom McHale

Burning through hundreds over the years has exposed more than a few learnings through brute-force trial and error. Here are a couple… Over the centuries, people have searched for wisdom from an odd variety of sources. The dead, elderly relatives, tea leaves, decks of cards, Ouija boards, and, more recently, crowdsourcing. That last one rests on the theory that if you get enough people to weigh in with their opinions, the truth will become evident by volume. I guess the crowdsourcing proponents have never heard of the Kardashians. Millions are attracted to that drivel, making the audience one ..read more
