For Squish Test Center 2.0 we have decided to primarily focus our efforts on providing support for manual testing. Since Squish Test Center is all about evaluating the health of your application at any given point in time, we felt that seeing the results of your manual tests right next to the results of your automated UI and unit tests is a natural and logical next step. This also means that all test result analysis features for Squish Test Center that you might already use and be familiar with for your automated tests can now also be applied to your manual tests. A common question posed in the software QA space is: how can I verify the playback of a video in my application? Some responses to this question include using 3rd party, expensive add-ons to existing automation software or require clunky workarounds. Here, we discuss the challenges in verifying video playback, and an easy way to work around them using the Squish GUI Tester. Challenges in Video Verification Verifying the complete video playback can be difficult. Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) is not a new idea. There are still recordings available online showing presentations on the topic given as early as 2009! Still, many people are tip-toeing around the concept, asking themselves questions like: Is BDD just Yet Another Hype, or is there something substantial? Is it relevant to my own work? Creating Powerful Remote Test Fixtures Using RPyC & the Squish GUI Tester

by Frerich Raabe

RPyC is a powerful Python module for distributed computing. It’s especially useful in conjunction with Squish: by integrating RPyC into Python-based Squish GUI tests, creating complex test fixtures on remote system becomes a breeze! Setting The Stage Repeatable tests are a key feature of automated test projects. By being able to repeat a test at will, it’s easy to demonstrate defects to other team members and to validate proposed bug fixes. To be able to repeat test runs requires that the test setup itself remains unchanged – except of course the application under test (AUT). This means that t ..read more

Automated testing using the Squish GUI Tester is a great thing: all the mundane work of exercising and verifying the GUI is done automatically. Humans can concentrate on more creative and abstract tasks, such as test design or root cause analysis based on test reports, using e.g. Squish Test Center. There’s often a dedicated team for the latter task, which means that report analysis is typically done by the same people, test engineers. Faults are found, regressions are noticed — tickets get created. As it happens, not all faults are equal: GUI test automation setups are complex systems, and so ..read more
