We are excited to announce that as of 1st January 2023, the British Scoliosis Research Foundation (BSRF) and the Scoliosis Association UK (SAUK)  have merged. BSRF has, for the past 50 years, promoted and funded high-quality research into scoliosis in the UK, whilst SAUK has worked to raise awareness of scoliosis and provide support, advice, and information to people affected by scoliosis in the UK. A research team at Queen’s University Belfast, led by Dr Lisa Graham-Wisener and Dr Paul Toner, aims to develop a core set of outcomes to determine the effectiveness of treatment for adolescents and young adults with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS; scoliosis without a known cause). The study (called ‘SPINE-COS-AYA’) is funded by the British Scoliosis Research Foundation. Dr Alison Tyson-Capper, Professor of Molecular Cell Biology and Dr Tom Joyce, Professor of Orthopaedic Engineering, are part of a study, funded by the British Scoliosis Research Foundation (BSRF), into what the effects of titanium debris around the spines of children with scoliosis might be. Titanium is used in the manufacturing of growing rods like the MAGEC spinal rods, which in April 2020 were suspended from supply in the UK.
