Hi! First post here, feels wild I haven’t ever visited this subreddit after having scoliosis for so long. Here’s my question—can anybody help me figure out what the current degrees of my curves are? I had my first growth rod surgery when I was ten years old, 13 years ago. I did nine more surgeries over the next 5 years until they ultimately decided they didn’t have to do the spinal fusion, and left my rods in my back. I know roughly what degree I was back then before we started, but my surgeon never told me what it is now haha I haven’t seen him in a couple years at this point, but I was ..read more

Riding Mower vs. Lumbar Curve?

If I had a doctor who knows anything about scoliosis I wouldn't have to ask you this question. I just turned 81, and my scoliosis has gotten dramatically worse in the past couple of years. I don't know my numbers, but when the x-ray technician saw my lumbar curve she said she was surprised I was able to walk. My question is about mowing the lawn. I have a riding mower that I really enjoy using. Some years ago we had heavy rain over an extended period, which left my lawns with lots of mounds and dips. Think mogul ski course. This makes for a bouncy, often uncomfortable ride on the mower. Even ..read more

"Schroth isn't for everyone" Can it be damaging?

Short version: I started Schroth PT for upper back pain. It gave me lower back pain and did not relieve my upper back. I've stopped Schroth for two weeks but the lower back pain remains. Can Schroth do permanent damage if it "isn't for you", or can I expect to go back to normal? Longer version: I posted a few weeks ago my concerns that Schroth PT was giving me additional pain. I have a lumbar curve, but previously only had upper back pain. A day after every Schroth session, I would experience debilitating lower back pain, something I've never had before. This community was really helpful an ..read more

hi guys, i was diagnosed with scoliosis a couple years ago, it’s progressed since and recently i noticed i get a lot of sharp chest pain on the left side of my lung. sometimes its like sharp nerve pain and sometimes its aches and can last like 5 minutes or a whole day, really random too because i dont have to do anything physical for it to happen. my doctor figured that my chest pain is a result of my scoliosis and therefore sent me to get this xray done. do any of you guys experience this as well? submitted by /u/meat_warrior [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Any ladies here who've had scoliosis since your adolescence, did your curves increase after you reached menopause? What do you do to keep your spines healthy: physiotherapy, pilates, swimming, supplements (vitamin D, calcium, collagen), hormone replacement therapy, etc.? What should we start doing in our 40s to minimize any negative effects that come naturally with age? submitted by /u/curvyespinosa [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
