Tarot by the Moon provides month-by-month tarot spreads, spells, and rituals to help you manifest the changes you want for yourself and your community. I think one of the challenging things about publishing in Tarot is the saturation of beginner how-to books/books filled with meanings. Speaking for myself, it is a challenge to come across books with something fun and exciting – I am happy to report that Tarot by the Moon fulfills my desire for something different and valuable. Victoria writes that the book is “for those who wish to create change in their lives and for those who are interested ..read more

Re-Hellenization — Ethnic-Religious Identity Reconsidered (Medium.com)

The contemporary Pagan faces numerous challenges in society. One challenge, a challenge shared among alternative religious movements, is legitimacy. Accusers claim that Pagans do not hold sincere beliefs. Instead of possessing true piety, Pagans are accused of “live-action role-playing” (Larping), a term referring to role-playing games in which individuals dress up in costumes and act out their characters. Pagans are seen by some as role-playing, reliving, or acting out their fantasies about ancient civilizations. Greeks identifying as religiously ‘ethnic’ (polytheism) also face this same hurd ..read more

Hekate in the Greek Tradition
Angelo Nasios

Hekate is a deeply important goddess in the Greek tradition and in other paths that honor her. For this reason, I have translated the entry on Hekate from the rare Greek collection from the 19th century titled Gr. Ὠγυγία ἤ Ἀρχαιολογία (En. Ogygia or Archeology). Written in 1815 by the Greek scholar Athanasios Stagiritis (1780 – 1840). The five-volume set contains the religious history, mythology, and customs of the ancient Greek tradition. The original editions are rare to find. After nearly two hundred years Ogygia was made available once again along with a demotic version that updates the te ..read more

Black Gods: Piety and Politics
Angelo Nasios

Recently a series of photos circulated online showcasing the Greek Gods with black models. The collection was created by Ana Martínez and Mario Ville from the International Center for Photography and Film in Spain. Depending on the audience, the reactions varied. My personal opinion is that the photos are stunning. I was blown away by the vibrancy and power captured in the photos. Ana and Mario were successful in expressing the essence of the Gods. For example, the photo of Zeus (model Ricardo Nkosi) very much is recognizable as Zeus because (for me) the hair was on point and was styled in an ..read more

The Classical Roots in Medieval Education and Knowledge (Medium)

The early Middle Ages of European history presents us with a dramatic changing cultural landscape to examine and explore. The most drastic of all the changes occurring in this period, starting at about 400 C.E to about 1,050 is the Christianization of the continent. The shift in religious affiliation, theological perspectives which accompany it had long last repercussions on all aspects of life; education and knowledge are the primary targets of this essay’s investigation — what became of the classical tradition in the Middle Ages? How did the Christians of the Latin West and the Greek East ha ..read more

The Lie That is Harming Your Spirituality (Medium.com)

As someone who’s been around the block, spiritually speaking, I’ve come to discover the greatest lie circulating the ‘spiritual but not religious’ crowd. The greatest lie is that you should “accept all things with an open mind, or you are being narrow and closed-minded.” It is a common habit for spiritual people to engage in all sorts of traditions and practices. Tarot, astrology, numerology, crystal healing, witchcraft, reiki, yoga, meditation, and so on. You can find people engaged in numerous of these practices simultaneously. There is nothing wrong with engaging in these activities, per se ..read more

The Departure of a Well-Sated Guest

I was going through a difficult time. Seeking advice from the Gods, I picked my Loeb’s copy of Aesop’s Fables, asked my question, and opened it to a random page. The fable that I had turned to was The Departure of a Well-Sated Guest: A man was holding a fine dinner party in the city, after sacrificing. His dog met another dog, a friend of his, and invited him to come to dinner at his house. The other dog came, but the cook picked him up by the leg and threw him over the wall into the street. When the other dogs asked him how he had fared at the banquet he said: “How could it have been any bett ..read more

The Cult of Academia (Hearth of Hellenism)

This blog entry of the Hearth of Hellenism aims to address the dark side of academia in relationship to polytheistic practitioners that lead to a disconnect with Greeks in conversation concerning Hellenism. One of the admirable qualities of polytheists is our interest in scholarly materials concerning ancient history, religion, and culture. Polytheists are often decently exposed to history, one of the main reasons someone becomes a polytheist, as I joke, is because they have read too much history to remain a monotheist. With this said, I need to raise awareness concerning the double-edged swor ..read more
