The Biscuits finally got a new manager! Yet with Kevin Boles taking the helm its difficult to predict what we should expect from him in Montgomery. Boles has made stops at multiple levels with multiple affiliated organizations, as well as recently heading a club in the Appy League, a collegiate wood-bat level.  Boles shares a similarity to previous Biscuit managers, being the son of a well known baseball man. Like Billy Gardner Jr and Brady Williams, Kevin Boles father made a name in the game as a manager and coach, though the elder Boles, John, staked his claim largely on the c ..read more

"My grandfather played for the Rebels." It's a simple statement, yet it caught me by surprise.  It's the connection to the past that reminds us players are more than statistics. They are husbands, fathers, grandfathers, uncles - to people who maybe never even saw them in uniform.  Some family members have stories to share, some are looking for details about loved ones. Or ones never met. Often it's more tall tales than truth, no matter which direction the information flows. On this occasion, now some years ago, I was baking in the summer sun watching a largely irrelevant game ..read more

1914 Game Ad A hundred and ten years has passed since the 1914 Montgomery Rebels took the field in what was essentially a swan song for baseball in Alabama's capitol city. After the '14 season The Rebels would lose their franchise in the Southern Association and not see upper level affiliated baseball for nearly 30 years. Montgomery would not field a team at all in 1915 and only weakly in 1916 - starting a drought that would last until deep into the Jazz Age. From the start of the first world war until just three years before the stock market crash the city would host major ..read more

The announcement of the relocation by the Ms. Braves from Pearl to Columbus, GA raises HUGE red flags for the fans of the Montgomery Biscuits. While the Skitz sister team, the Richmond Squirrels occupy the top spot in all of Double-A baseball in regards to attendance, removing the Braves leaves Montgomery next to last in Double-A butts in seats. Unless the local attitude towards buying tickets changes, the Biscuits could very likely be the next to pack up for new digs. Where? Who knows. Pearl now has an available facility opening up, as does Jackson, TN. With the shift to the east ..read more

Happy New Year! I hope this finds you surviving the offseason so far. I was recently reminded of the old days, getting once a month updates via Baseball Digest or some other sporting periodical was the only hot stove activity for most fans. The winter meetings were a mythic place behind closed doors where deals were made and players were shuffled like chattel by moguls building dynasties. Now its a constant barrage of internet rumors about what flight Ohtani is on. What a world! However as advanced as things have become, we rely on old school methods to predict our skits this year ..read more

TWENTY CRINGES Oh, we have seen been a few! Players and fans alike enjoy a good laugh and there have been some moments at Riverwalk that have been worth the price of admission even if they weren't the stuff of promotional legends. I want to know how many of these were you there for?* THAT NAME THO' The cringes started even before the first pitch was thrown. In spite of its later popularity, when the team name was first announced in front of a local crowd, Montgomery fans were underwhelmed and many were forced to use their thinkers to decide if they were being made the butt of some ob ..read more

Ensberg at Rickwood Classic We start with a bang as the Montgomery Biscuits stand a strong chance of getting a new manager for next season. Current skipper Mo Ensberg, along with current Durham Bulls manager Michael Johns, have both interviewed for the Tampa Rays open first base coaching position. While the Rays are yet to interview "outside candidates" its been the practice of the Tampa brass to promote from within the organization more often than not.  Even if Ensberg isn't selected as the Rays new 1B coach, he would likely be given a promotion to Durham if the gig falls to J ..read more
