Great Britain has entered two boats into the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland from 19-21 May, in a last attempt to add to its tally of nine boats already qualified for the Olympic Games this summer. The Final Olympic Qualification Regatta is a brutal event, known as ‘the Regatta of Death’ in the rowing world. It was a blustery day in Bournemouth with waves building through the day, creating a real test of skill and character for the competitors by the afternoon finals. Topping the medal table, Sunday saw four gold medals and a silver added to the four gold and bronze from Saturday. Highlights include a ‘clean sweep’ of golds across the men’s sweep boats, medals for all ten Para rowing athletes, and gold for both the women’s four and women’s quad. Medals were won across the men’s, women’s and para rowing squads with the women’s four, women’s quad, men’s eight and PR3 mixed double all winning gold. It was a win for the Women’s four (W4-) of Helen Glover, Esme Booth, Sam Redgrave and Rebecca Shorten after a tussle with the Romanians saw the GB crew take and keep the lead from the halfway mark. There were continued learnings across the doubles crews with the Lightweight women’s doubles and Men’s doubles building on their races yesterday.
