Now Is The Time - Exercise

We all know by now exercise isn't just good for us physically, but mentally too. The benefits to exercise are far reaching and extend not only to ourselves but to those around us. The positive benefits we gain from exercise is projected onto others in the way we act, react and interact. The example we set to the young and the performance we bring to our working and home lives can all be significantly improved by consistent regular exercise. In sport it was always a given, a priority, a necessity to work on ourselves, to improve ourselves physically and mentally for the benefit of the team you ..read more

The internet has brought me onto a hill. It’s a bit ironic really. Lockdown as we know it has meant everything we do to communicate with anyone other than our immediate others requires a decent internet connection. Before Lockdown (BL?) ours was OK. Not super fast, but we didn’t need it to be. Emails, a bit of twitter and some Netflix saw us all good and well. Now the need we have has increased tenfold and it won’t cope. The bent coat hanger someone at some time buried under the field to bring internet to our house must be rusty, so I’ve had to come up onto a hill a mile away and sit here, s ..read more

Simple thoughts No. 2 - Exercise

Some bits of exercise in 2020!   The fluctuations of activity change throughout our lives. As youngsters we’re all pretty active and from then onward, as we grow, we tend to form and fall into habits that define how we see exercise until something happens to make us want to form new habits. The word habit here is the key. I spent my first 32 years of life exercising, increasingly intensely through my teenage years and well into adult life. After an early swimming career and then rowing, I’d trained hard, relentlessly forever. It had long gone form being a habit to simply being wh ..read more

Simple thoughts No.1 - A Routine

Scrolling through social media seems to be something I’m doing more of at the moment, sadly. It’s an offshoot of the lock down we find ourselves in right now and in my case comes from not quite knowing what I should be doing…so I just waste time looking…and looking. I have a love / hate / discomfort relationship with social media at the best of times and that’s certainly the case now only intensified. Everything seems intensified. Which leads me to my simple thought for today. There’s a whole lot of ‘isolation’ living going on with people posting hints, tips, funny stuff, bori ..read more

Tokyo 2020/21 - How I see it.

One of many huts that scatter the island of Jan Mayen, true isolation, something we could all do with right now. I was only going to write a quick note on all this, but the words kept coming. Just my thoughts on this situation from an Olympic sporting point of view. The 2020 Tokyo Olympic games postponement was announced yesterday afternoon after many questions and much debate. This decision needed to be made and I believe was the only option during this crisis we all find ourselves in. I can only imagine it’s a huge relief to these athletes who have been living in limbo for the last ..read more

I haven’t sat down to write for a long while now. Sometimes it seems right to do so, other times not. I guess that’s the power of habit and consistency…but that’s a whole different story. Life has been very busy, actually for the last three years I’ve been swimming against the tide. It’s a strange thing, life, and when you go through a monumental change in situation, circumstance, what you do, there’s an adjustment period. I guess for everyone this period is different, holds different challenges and takes an indefinite amount of time. I feel as though I’ve been saying every couple of months fo ..read more

What is the key to getting out and having an adventure? How do we make sure the family time we spend together is fun, stimulating and adventurous? It’s not always easy that’s for sure, but getting out and having an adventure together is never something we regret, it’s always a positive part to our day!           It’s no secret to anyone who knows me and my family that what we love to do more than anything else in the world is to get out the front door and explore, wherever we are, whatever the weather. This doesn’t always come easily but ..read more
