SUNDAY, 11 February 2024 On Saturday 10 February 2024, game 32 of the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League, (AWIHL) was held between Adelaide Rush and Melbourne Ice at the Adelaide Ice ArenA, South Australia. During the game, which began at 4:45pm local time, many players from the Melbourne Ice and Rush teams became unwell. Players from both teams were taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital showing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The Australian hockey community is saddened by the recent passing of IHA Life Member Kevin Brown. Kevin began playing hockey in 1964 on the small rink at Hindley Street, Adelaide. He quickly emerged as skilled player and exceptional stick handler, which saw him become the league’s highest scorer in four seasons and helped him win the Walker Trophy as league MVP three times. In 1980, Kevin helped found the Payneham Flyers in the National Ice Hockey League and was both player, coach, and GM with the team.
