‘It’s a surreal feeling’: Macklin Celebrini wins 2024 Hobey Baker Award
The Boston Hockey Blog

Photo by Brendan Nordstrom. Macklin Celebrini came into summer training with Boston University and ‘pissed off’ his new teammates. Not because of an attitude or ego, but because of his competitiveness, of how hard he works. It’s a big part of the reason Celebrini won the 2024 Hobey Baker Award Friday at the RiverCentre in Saint Paul, Minn.  “For a 17 year old to push a group of older players like that, it’s pretty impressive and says a lot about him and his character and about how much he cares. That’s why he is who he is,” BU head coach Jay Pandolfo said Wednesday.  Celebrini became ..read more

Photo by Gracie Davenport. Mathieu Caron sat beside the right post of his net — head down, arms at his side, frozen. The junior goaltender sat unmoved for five minutes, trying to process the puck that slipped through his legs and off the metal in the back of the goal. Around him, five other Terriers also stood, frozen. The Terriers’ season was over. Caron played what was certainly his best game in the scarlet and white. It might have been the best performance of his career. There are a myriad of saves one could point to, each more impressive than the next. After 71 minutes and 9 seconds of hoc ..read more

Photo courtesy of Justin Tafoya/Clarkson Creative Photography. Just over 80 miles west of Agganis Arena, Denver University cashed in its ticket to the Frozen Four for the second time in three years, and the first time since becoming national champions in 2022.  The Pioneers defeated the University of Massachusetts and Cornell in the war of attrition that was the Springfield Regional. The region’s top-seeded team eked out back-to-back 2-1 victories in a rare defensive showcase for the typical high-octane Denver offense.  The Pioneers (30-9-3) earned a date with the No. 2 overall seed ..read more

Photo by Gracie Davenport. Sit down to watch a Boston University men’s hockey game, and you’ll see a lot of Ryan Greene.  Whether that be on the power play, penalty kill or while he’s driving production on the second line, the sophomore center’s versatility has been invaluable for the Terriers and earned him ‘unsung hero’ praise.  As BU embarks on its second consecutive trip to the Frozen Four this week for a date with the University of Denver in Thursday’s national semifinal, Greene will be at the center of the Terriers’ intended success.  “I feel like I’ve been able to play in ..read more

Photo by Gracie Davenport. A tale of two Terriers. It was the best and the worst of times for the Boston University men’s hockey team this past weekend. BU defeated Maine 4-1 on Friday night — an antithesis to its 6-2 Hockey East Championship loss to Boston College the following day. In a season when great just isn’t good enough, the Terriers have yet another runner-up distinction to add to their trophy case of “almosts.” It is accompanied by their second place in the Beanpot, their spot behind BC in the Hockey East regular season and the No. 2 in national polls that’s been displayed beside th ..read more
