In little over a week’s time, I will have been home for a month! It’s absolutely mad to think that its already been so long since I was enjoying the Australian sun (coz yes, the weather is still ridiculously good, even in the middle of winter)! Since I’ve been back, I’ve done the obligatory – but still fun – trips to the grandparents, got over my jetlag, and started my summer job in a desperate attempt to make up for all the money I spent on my year abroad!   Not only has it been lovely to see my family and friends again, but it was also nice to get my results back from Flinders to find that I ..read more

Thinking about going home!

As I write this there are only 8 days between me and home!!! It’s both a scary and exciting time as I miss everyone and everything from home, but at the same time there’s a certain sadness involved in flying 16,000 km away from all the friends you’ve made in the past year.  It’s a lot easier to go away for a year when you know that when you come back you will be able to see everyone.  In an ideal world I would get to see all my Aussie friends again at some point – the best time would be Sunday at 8pm for Ice Cream, DJV represent – but I know that realistically I’m not going to see them again f ..read more

Less than two months to go…

With only less than two months remaining of my Aussie adventure, here is a compilation of one of the things I’m going to miss the most – the good old Aussie sunset.  Also, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you all that the video app no longer has everyone’s favourite piano melody so we’ll have to live with this frankly sub-par music…also sorry that the app kills the quality of some of the photos, I did the best I could ..read more

Mid-Semester Break Number Two

Over the first week of my mid-semester break I travelled to the Red Centre with a couple of friends to see Uluru. Uluru is a sacred rock of the Anangu people, one of the aboriginal groups that lives in the Red Centre.  Not only was this trip eye-opening as I learnt so much about the culture of the Anangu people, but it was also incredibly fun! The views of Uluru at sunrise and sunset are second to none, its incredibly beautiful! My friends and I booked onto a 3 day tour of the area that involved seeing both Uluru and a nearby rock formation called Kata Tjuta as well as hiking around and throu ..read more

The Adelaide Fringe

Here’s just a short and sweet blog about Adelaide’s Mad March. Most Australians, and the majority of people from Adelaide, will tell you that Adelaide isn’t an exceedingly exciting place to live.  Yes, there are plenty of things to do, but comparatively to other Australian cities (and state capitals), it is rather….boring isn’t the right word, but I guess subdued fits quite well.  This however all changes from mid-February to mid-March when the Adelaide Fringe Festival comes to town.  Now, this may seem familiar to you as you’ve probably heard of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and you’d be co ..read more

When I came out to Flinders University, I had no idea what to expect.  I didn’t know how many other exchange students there would be, where they would be from, and I knew next to nothing about Australia as a country – apart from the fact it is so bloody hot, which is actually something I talk about with my friends, both exchange and domestic, on an almost daily basis.  As luck would have it, the International Student Service at Flinders are very good and helped me settle in straight away, with the Beach and City Tours that I’ve discussed previously on this blog, however the best thing they did ..read more

Hiya!! It’s been a bit of a while since I’ve posted any blogs, sorry! I’ve got into an awful habit of writing them on my phone and completely forgetting to post them on here, so there will be a few uploaded in quick succession as I have built up a slight backlog of things to share! The beginning of March marked my return to uni after my nearly 5 month long summer holiday! After celebrating my 21st and Christmas – 2 occasions which usually occur in midwinter – in the middle of summer, travelling to New Zealand, and all the way down the Australian east coast, I was very ready to come back and l ..read more
