My grandfather (and grandmother) live with me (M17) and my parents. My grandmother has gone out for a few hours and I'm looking for things to do to keep my grandfather entertained. I had a look online but all the activities they recommend (looking at scrapbooks, craft activities, playing boardgames) he can't do/won't understand. My grandfathers altzimers is severe, he's not independent at all (I just had to unwrap a teacake for him bcs he cant figure out how to open/unwarp things) and cant really speak coherently anymore. Is there anything (other than watching TV) that would be good to keep h ..read more

So, I have a family member with Alzheimer’s and is having hallucinations due to the medicines she is taking. She mostly stays at home and husband always is working, so they have more then enough to support financially. Is there anything to help with the hallucinations, or just something we can do to help? submitted by /u/New-Lingonberry1773 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi! My family is going through an ugly battle over my Grandmother and her assets and I was hoping I could solicit advice from this group. Basically my Aunt and Grandmother bought a house and property together 50/50 10 years ago. Grandma was fine taking care of herself but as the years went by she relied on my aunt to write the checks to pay her bills, set up her pills and take her to doctors. Aunt got Grandma to sign her as POA in 2019. Aunt moved a con man in 6 months ago without asking Grandma. Aunt just told her he’s moving in. Grandma has been complaining about him and kicked him out twic ..read more

Wife was diagnosed about 2 years ago although I think it had been going on for some time. She's in middle stage, I'd guess 4, maybe occasionally dipping a toe in 5. It's hard to know with her because she always has been a private person, never one to complain, and thankfully has retained her exceptionally pleasant personality. Besides loss of short term memory, has no concept of time or dates, and her speech is becoming limited. Lot of word searching. All I do is try to make her life as pleasant as possible, don't query her to see what's going on in there. Very limited social interactions alt ..read more

My mother-in-law was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s last year, and has recently progressed to a point where she can not be safely left alone and has taken to angrily yelling sexually derogatory expletives. My father-in-law can’t stay home during the day to take care of her, and they do not have family in the area that can help while he is at work. To address this, they’re going have her stay with her sibling (with whom she’s always been incredibly close) in another state until they can figure out the logistics of paying for either in home care or a nursing home. My main question is, i ..read more

Hi all, i am 25 and my mother 62 has early onset Alzheimer’s and got diagnosed in 2019. Her progression wasn’t too bad for the first couple years but just this last year it has gotten really really bad. Shes still my mom but she really isn’t, ya know. She has lost her vision/hand eye coordination for the most part (can’t do laundry, doesn’t text or even go on her phone because she can’t see what’s on it, putting on clothes alone is now a challenge, no bike riding, can’t cook etc). It has been really hard, as you all already know. Her and my dad live together about 2 hours away from me and we ..read more

My mom called me last night to let me know my dad (in his early 70s) was just diagnosed with Alzheimer's, as well as alcohol related liver disease and hypo thyroidism, he's always been a big drinker. She says she's been noticing the signs for a year now. I live out of town and typically only see them a few hours a month so I never noticed anything. Apparently after we visited them on Easter, he had forgotten that we left, and then there was another incident that another family member witnessed him forgetting something that led to them doing the tests. I have no idea what I should be asking th ..read more

We’re not being told stage or life expectancy

My great aunt has just been diagnosed with the disease. We noticed that she was confused as to what day she was in, even saying we were in 1973, and also can’t remember what she ate the day before or what she did or if she went outside, so we took her to the neurologist and ended up getting a diagnosis. The thing is they won’t tell us what stage they’d consider it or even a vague notion of her life expectancy now, so I don’t know how much time I have to get used to the idea of not having her and doing my grieving process. I don’t know if it’s common not to say these things but i’m finding it ..read more
