Due to a medical condition, Ive lost a considerable amount of weight over the last year. I am being treated currently by a doctor who has helped me stabilize my weight to where its at now (for reference Im 5’7 and about 100 lbs) The issue comes with, Ive lost quite a bit of strength….. and the 30 lbs Ive lost has also taken away from my ability to provide any pressure…..and unfortunately, I am hearing some complaints from clients that my massage is “too light.” Ive tried a few things like lowering the table but unfortunately haven’t found anything that helps and Im giving everything I can eac ..read more

I’ve had several deep tissue massages and I’ve never experienced this. It is painful to touch the skin on my back today. I am incredibly sore and ibuprofen is not touching it. I drank a ton of water after the massage and today, and have stretched. Any tips? This feels not normal. submitted by /u/wonder_bunny_16 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

i got a upper back and neck massage yesterday, lady used oils against bare skin. i’m not sure what exactly it might’ve been, because i couldn’t take a shower until later that evening and i kept smelling the oils and now it’s like a ruined smell to me and i’ve had a constant headache ever since. at one point i turned over onto my back so she could work on my chest and neck, and she really went hard on my collarbones and neck. i’m not sure if it was some type of lymphatic draining method or something but she went up and down my neck with her hands really hard and it was somewhat uncomfortable a ..read more

Cupping therapy - What does it mean when I get a dark purple line through the middle of the cupped area?

I've been getting cupped 1x a week on my back/shoulders/neck for several months ago and am used to the normal purple bruising and whatnot. This session we used a little more suction than we normally do on my neck and it was intense. When the cup was removed there was just a normal purple circle but after a few hours a darker line formed through the middle of the bruise and even outside of the area cupped. Looks like a purple sharpie line lol It doesn't hurt or cause discomfort, just never happened before. I was curious as to what it is that causes this? submitted by /u/SinfulMermaid [visit r ..read more

I used to do a usual 60 min massage every month but for last couple of times I did a 90 min massage and midway through the session my whole body start shaking vigorously, like neurogenic tremeours. Has anyone ever experienced this. Care to share your experience and if this is a concern or indicative of anything serious. Thanks submitted by /u/SomeSavings [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi y'all early days massage therapy student here, Im in an advanced program and we're starting outreach soon and while I find massage to be pretty easy to sink into and find a groove, fully clothed massage has me really baffled? I struggle with knowing how to sequence the routine/compressions or how to even properly perform the techniques when I can't feel the clients muscles over thick clothes. I've only been able to try it twice so far and didn't get much help from the teacher when asking for extra guidance. Clothed massage gets me really in my head which also just ruins the flow of it, and ..read more

Hi everyone! So my wife loves massages and I love giving them. She regularly works out and with her work she tends to get some nice knots in her trap/upper back area and really tight in her lower back. I'm looking to provide her a better experience and I'm looking for tips or places to look to grow my knowledge base. She usually wants a relaxing massage but at times she wants deep tissue. I've watched YouTube videos but they seem hit and miss. Was wondering who you all as professionals recommended? Who or what is some of your go to for pointers and advice (particular person on YouTube or book ..read more

Hi I've been using biotone cream for years and every year have to buy a new refillable tube. I've been using biotones. But I buy by the gallon and don't like having to buy a full tube of cream every time I need a new tube. Anyone know of a refillable tube like biotones but empty? I am a 26F and went in for a massage today. The MT had all excellent reviews and I was told by him that he had been a MT for 23 Years, if I could guess he was between 55-60 years old. He has also very muscular and strong as well . So upon arriving at his location I was immediately a little uncomfortable because he was just standing there talking to me about himself for maybe 5-7 minutes in the dark office since the only lights that were on were the mood lights. I assumed he was just an older gentleman and maybe lonely so I entertained him for a few minutes before I had to shift the conversati ..read more

My wife has had pretty bad back issues. She’s actually received some experimental treatment that is starting to work and help her. But she now has some underlying muscular issues she needs treated. Aetna states they will cover some sessions but we can’t even find anyone who would potentially be in that category and no physical therapy places that we’ve called offer it. How can we go about finding that type of massage that is real and not some place that claims it (regardless of whether covered by insurance or not)? Were in Central NJ FWIW Thanks! submitted by /u/mp29mm [visit reddit] [commen ..read more
