We had an amazing series this year. Sailed off the dock ten times, set all nineteen sails four times, got to view the eclipse whilst underway, and even sailed off the dock under tops’ls and t’gallants!

Myself and a good friend (or two) are super interested in taking out RYA Day Skipper or similar certification granting ICC to charter yachts in the future. We all have very solid day sailing experience: multiple skippered charters, parents who live on sailboats, etc.
We’re coming from the USA (NYC area) and are targeting mid-June. What are your suggestions for sailing schools to look into? We’re thinking about countries like Croatia, Greece to get experience with med-mooring. Canary islands, Malta also seem to offer multiple well-reviewed sailing schools.

Does anyone have any knowledge about these boats? Info online seems to be sparse at best.
Plating thickness? Balast type? Years for different versions? What kind of insulation is used?
How well do they sail? How is the centerboard/lifting keel controlled?
Any major issues with the design in general?
We've always wanted an aluminum boat, and we were told about a Maracuja that's been stored on the hard for at least 10 years. This boat is a tiller version, with a sail drive; but I know they've come with wheel steering and shaft drives.

Picked up my Bristol 27 on Sunday, and someone said pics or it didn’t happen so here’s the proof I got her and made it home. Only with minor wailing and gnashing of teeth for the lack of a steady wind.
One thing I quickly found that I absolutely despise about this boat is the engine and I’m hoping someone can give me some possible solutions.
This boat was built earlier in the production run, (#100 of who knows how many, Practical Sailor says likely over 400), and while the later versions had an inboard as an option, mine did not.
Instead it had a well in the lazarette where an outboard sa ..read more

Hi everyone,
I was just thinking about old sailing cargo ships and wondered if anyone knew how they were constructed and maintained? I imagine they took a lot of battering from the weather; does anyone know if they had to be replaced at semi- regular intervals or whether they were expected to last a long time after construction? What did people do to make sure they lasted as long as possible?
Cheers

What do y'all use for insurance on small keelboats that are raced locally? My local racing org requires me to have 300k liability. Boat is a 1979 Kirby 25. I am professional captain and a USAA member if there are any benefits to be had there. Looking for inexpensive insurance.
I have a quote from Markel for $100/yr but I don’t know if it allows me to race.
I'd appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.

I'm looking at a 1986 Ericson 28-2 but not finding much on line in the way of reviews or boats listed for comparison. I know Ericson has a good reputation overall. Any past or present E28-2 owners in this sub that wouldn't mid sharing the pro's and cons of this boat? Many thanks!
