Me and Laowa go way back! I still remember when they started producing lenses for the Sony E-mount when Sony didn't have a lot of lenses available. Since then, they became a reputable company with nice quality niche lenses with not that hefty of a price tag. Their new Laowa 10mm f2.8 is one of those, and is their 10 year anniversary lens! It's also their first Autofocus lens for the Sony E-mount, with hopefully more to come.
I asked Laowa to try out the lens and I recently brought it to Iceland. You can see all of my findings in the following video:

In November 2023 I spent a few weeks in Japan in autumn. It wasn’t my first time visiting, but it had been almost 10 years since my last visit. And I never visited during the peak of autumn. I was invited by my friend Daniel Kordan to co-guide a tour with him and decided to spent some days before and after to explore some more places and take some more photos for myself. People that know me know I love colour in my photographs, and Japan was the perfect place to explore my style: vibrant reds, oranges and yellow. There were beautiful colours everywhere and some of the most beautiful autumn col ..read more

In this article I want to tell you about some of my favourite moments from 2023. I say moments and not photos, because I always keep saying that the moment is sometimes (and often) more valuable than the picture itself. WIth each photo comes this vivid memory of being there and capturing that moment. Each of these photos give me that special feeling.
Another confirmation when seeing my own photos of this year is something I also often say: The light and conditions are more important than the actual location for a beautiful photograph. But if both are great, you have something special. Capturin ..read more

Introduction
I’ve taken quite some mushroom photos over the last few years and most of them were done with my macro lens. Mushrooms are often tiny, and it’s very inviting to single them out with a beautiful soft background. I wrote a specific article about this in 2020 that you can read on my website.
But of course, as a photographer I want to evolve. I want to strive for new creative angles and do something different. I started focusing more on the surrounding of mushrooms. I want to show the magic world of the forest that lies around them. I noticed that already with my macro lens, where I o ..read more

It’s been a while since my last article on drone photography (2019 to be precise). Since then I’ve used lots of DJI drones. Earlier this year I bought a Mini 3 Pro to see if this could potentially replace bigger drones for my travels. And I have to be honest: I didn’t like it at first. The 48MP function was so slow and limited. It was a hassle to use and the drone just was not as stable as the bigger DJI drones when flying with stronger winds. I was quite disappointed and even returned the drone.
Fast forward a few months later, my bigger drone crashed in Thailand and I was kind of forced to ..read more

It’s been a while since I’ve written an article about my workflow with storage in particular. In this article I will not only tell you about how I manage my storage, but also how I work on the road and organise everything so that I can seamlessly transfer it to my home setup without too much hassle. I’ll also talk about my directory structure and backups. I will try to keep everything simple, as I am not a giant tech-head, and I know that that are a lot of readers out there that aren’t either.
The biggest reason for writing this article is the same question that pops up on almost all ..read more

Did you know that the original Sony 16-35 GM was released more than 6 years ago? That’s right: SIX years! It was originally announced May 17, 2017. Either time flies or I am getting old. Probably both. Nevertheless it’s great to see Sony upgrading all the older lens designs. Earlier it was the 70-200 GM II and the 24-70 GM II (which are both excellent new lenses) and now it’s finally time for the new 16-35 GM II. And the question is: Is this is something to be excited about or is it just a ‘standard’ upgrade with the usual ‘lighter & smaller’ ? In this article I’ll tell you all about this ..read more

Sony just announced the new 70-200 f/4 G Macro lens. I already have this lens for about 2 months and did lots of shots with it. In this article I’ll discuss everything what this lens is about. And yes, it has macro capabilities! Let’s get started.
Full Disclaimer: I am a Sony Europe Ambassador and Sony asked me if I wanted to try out this lens. I do have to send this one back.
Please note that this article is also available as a video, where I go through most of the photos and tell about my experience. You can watch it on YouTube:

Summer can be a tough season for nature and landscape photographers. Hot weather with often empty skies can be difficult, but it also offers opportunities. As we sometimes say: ‘Bad’ weather does not exist. You just have to use your imagination and do something with it! In the Netherlands we just had about 4 weeks of clear skies and hot weather. But I actually photographed quite a lot, so I figured it would be nice to list some things that I did during these weeks myself.
Here are a bunch of tips for photographing with the warm weather and empty skies:
1. Take your shots in the early morning o ..read more

Sony recently released the Xperia 1 V smartphone and marketed it as a big upgrade regarding photography. I’ve been using Xperia smartphones since forever so I was curious as to what Sony did this time. The Xperia phones have been known as kind of ‘niche’ smartphones but they have always been praised for their innovative functions and hardware. If you didn’t know: Sony is leading by producing most smartphone sensors in the industry (they are used in many other brand’s smartphones).
This article will be mainly about the low light performance of the new Xperia 1 V in the real world.
