Fighting Parkinson’s, and reconnecting to nature

When I had Parkinson’s, I realized that I had become disconnected from nature. Today’s blog post features a simple thing I did on my journey to reconnect with nature. Whether you have thought about it in a while or not does not matter, but we have a very unique connection to nature — the plants and tress need our carbon dioxide to breathe, and we need their oxygen to breathe — together, we share life. Here is one thing I did to re-connect with nature: 1. After you have an inhale, start to focus on your exhale, but think of it as service. As the breath is leaving you, offer it as serving natur ..read more

Fighting Parkinson’s, and hope and faith, plus taking positive action, part 3

In my previous two posts, I discussed why hope and faith without positive action are meaningless in Parkinson’s recovery. I discussed the positive action of the body and the mind. Today I am discussing the positive action of the soul. One of the most powerful positive actions of the soul that I took in my recovery was gratitude. Let’s focus on gratitude as the positive action you can take as well with a reminder excerpted from a blog post from last year. In my book, Fighting Parkinson’s…and Winning, the last section of Part Two of the book is entitled, “And then I found gratitude which h ..read more

In my previous post, I discussed why hope and faith without positive action are meaningless in Parkinson’s recovery. In that post, I discussed the positive action of the body. Today I am discussing the positive action of the mind. The best way I can demonstrate for you what it is like to experience pain and then to take action in a positive way in your mind is to share with you exactly what was happening in my mind when I had Parkinson’s and was experiencing pain. Here is Fighting Parkinson’s, It fights me back, posted May 2, 2010, fourteen years ago when I had Parkinson’s and had been d ..read more

I will be the first one to acknowledge that fighting Parkinson’s requires a lot of hope and a lot of faith. However, I also will be the first one to tell you that no matter how much hope and faith you have in your recovery, hope and faith without positive action are meaningless in Parkinson’s recovery. Think about this: 1. If you hope to pass a test in a subject where you have no previous knowledge and you have faith in yourself, but you never study and learn the material, what is your chance of success? 2. If you stand at the Par 3 tee and hope for a hole-in-one and have faith in your abilit ..read more

This final installment for Parkinson’s Awareness Month 2024 focuses on awareness of your recovery. That’s right, being aware of what you are doing, how you are doing it, and why you are doing it in relationship to your recovery. How much of your life are you “going through the motions” without a present awareness of what you are doing, how you are doing it, or why you are doing it? Doing the Parkinson’s Recipe for Recovery® can fall into that category. Fear of some unknown future can fall into that category. Eating an entire bag of chips while watching TV can fall into that category ..read more

As we discussed in my last post, if you are reading this blog, then you have a different viewpoint of Parkinson’s disease, and thus, a different viewpoint of Parkinson’s awareness. Today, we take the discussion to a higher level. Three years ago, when I announced the year as “2021…the year of faith,” I used the acronym for FAITH as Feeling Aware In The Heart. Here is another look at that concept to raise your awareness even higher. Faith says that you can get better from Parkinson’s. When you have faith in your recovery, then your attitude is an attitude of strength and perseverance. And, wit ..read more

Fighting Parkinson’s, and I am looking forward to…final part

In my two previous “I am looking forward to” blog posts, we discussed the introductory phrase, “I am looking forward to” as a way to move forward in a positive manner, and then taking action to bring to fruition what it is that you are looking forward to occurring in your life. Today, we add in the final part, gratitude. Here we go. The Final Part — Gratitude. The mind wants to judge how well you are doing something, and generally, it will tell you that whatever you are doing, it is not as good as you used to do it. That way of thinking is living in the past and is useless and detrimental in ..read more

In part 1, I explained, “When you think of the introductory phrase, “I am looking forward to” and you review when in life you have used this phrase, almost always, it is used to express excitement about something in the future that you know will occur.” Today we will discuss how positive action on your part is necessary to bring it to fruition. I gave this example two weeks ago: A concert is nearly sold out and you are able to get tickets. This prompts, “I am looking forward to going to the concert.” On the day of the concert, it is necessary for you to take positive action to manifest the en ..read more

I found your book online and read it over the weekend.  I’m grasping for hope but all I seem to be doing is cryi ..read more
