Pollen allergy, but worse in my apartment?

Hey everyone, I have had a pretty strong pollen allergy for about 4 years. This year has been especially bad and I have probably developed allergic asthma (have a specialist's appointment in a couple of weeks for that). I did an allergy blood test last week and the conclusion ist that I am especially allergic to birch. Since then, I have taken stronger medication, I have an inhaler and nose spray. It's weird, however, that I oftentimes feel fine or at least okay outdoors or at work, but I start having symptoms especially when I am in my apartment and start to wind down from the day. Reacting to something I’ve had before

I made some bacon from a package that’s already been opened, meaning I’ve had this same bacon before with no reaction. I’ve had this same brand numerous times. The bacon was no where near expired or bad. After a couple bites the top of my mouth towards the back started hurting bad enough to where I couldn’t eat. I could feel it pulsating back there heavily. Maybe some sharp needle feeling too? I didn’t make this bacon with any oils or seasonings, just straight to the pan. What causes this? I’m 25 and I’ve never had an allergic reaction like this! submitted by /u/Brookeatx1998 [visit reddit ..read more

New allergy serum issues?

Tl;dr: Upgraded to a new and stronger allergy serum at an allergist different from my last. Am now experiencing hives and other new symptoms. I’m a college student. I started allergy shots over a year ago at my allergist at home. Their serum seemed to be pretty effective but always left large (1-2 inch) welts over the injection sites. Flash forward to this January. My “home” serum expired while I was at school, so I received a new serum from the allergist I see during the semester (not my home allergist). Ever since, I’ve developed hives every 3-4 weeks, and not so soon after injections so as ..read more

New Apartment, old problem. Allergy?

I’ll try and be brief. 6 years ago, I’m in my apartment of 9 years when the AC went out in 100 degree heat. My cat was a habitual carpet urinator. The urine trapped was released in the heat, and I couldn’t stay in the apartment eventually due to respiratory problems. I couldn’t clear out my apartment of whatever was my issue. Now to today. I’ve moved into a nice apartment 2 weeks ago. I noticed a certain smell but didn’t pay too much attention. New place and all. I now am having the same respiratory issues. I’ve gotten an air purifier, bamboo activated charcoal, etc. I’m sleeping on the deck ..read more

Advice PLEASE :(

I suffer with facial dermatitis as well as eczema and in the last 6 months have been dealing with sudden allergic reactions. Originally it began with swelling lips and cracked corners of my mouth, but it has since devolved into hives and red bumps with a rash typically all over my forearms. I’ve spoken to a doctor, had blood tests done and all we have found so far is that I have an allergy to cats, which I’m aware of. I take prescription antihistamines and they aren’t doing much to stop this. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it? I use scent free shower and face products, ha ..read more

Allergy around eyes?

I got this reaction on my face once in Nov 2022, it went away and then again in Dec 2023 and has not completely gone away since then. Basically when it first acts up it looks like a black eye. Last I had it was Feb 2024 - I got a bit sun burned and that turned into raised bumps - exactly like the two instances before and since then my under eye area has been extremely dark. First three pics when the allergy is acting up, and last two when I’ve been avoiding heating up/going to the gym - still very dark around eyes. Did an allergy panel and came back negative for food/environmental. Will b ..read more

12hr allergy meds that will let me sleep

I have horrible allergies when I wake up, unless I take a 12 hr allergy -have an appointment next month for an allergist. This is a new (within the last year) thing I'm dealing with. My issue is when I take an allergy pill, I wake repeatedly during the night and don't sleep well at all. If I skip medication, I sleep soundly but cannot breathe, sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat and head fog for a few hours after waking. I discovered it's the pills! Allegra, Zyrtec-D and Claratin-D. Any 12hr pills that will let me sleep? submitted by /u/NoonieP [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can I feed my cat chicken if I am allergic to it?

I was recently allergy tested for 18 foods I come into contact with (at work) and have found out I’m allergic to chicken, pork, cherries, carrots, and milk. Is it safe to feed my cats chicken? I would assume not, however I cannot seem to find much information online. I am worried that I am getting reactions due to them eating chicken in their dry food and wet food. I also am uncertain if their treats contain chicken but I will check. For context I just get hives all over my arms and now apparently on my face and in my mouth. I also get bad stomach pain if eating those foods. I won’t die or sw ..read more
