Registering your hive/s grants liability protection to beekeepers (cheap insurance policy). The lack of hive registration could affect the amount of resources that Washington State receives for its pollinators. Finally registration helps our State determine what is happening to our honeybees. 2024 Registration Form Every year beekeepers are required to register their name, address, phone number, and number of hives to be owned for the year with the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Remember we used to think that mites fed on the hemolymph of honey bees and then Dr. Samuel Ramsey discovered that adult mites fed on the fat bodies of adult bees not hemolymph. This new research states that pre-emergent mites feed off the hemolymph of the bee pupae, while adult mites not in the cells with the developing bee pupae feed off the fat bodies of adult bees. So basically both statements are correct depending on the age of the mite. This behavior also can be seen in the tropilaelaps mite. The Stafford Creek Bee Club is a peer-led program, instructed and lead by incarcerated individuals. The staff sponsor is  very hands-on, and knowledgeable but allows students and instructors to voice their own thoughts and ideas along with  research and textbook information. This gives instructors and students confidence, and a boost in self esteem to be able  to learn and problem solve together as a team. With this ability to communicate and work together we have  accomplished a great deal this beekeeping season.   The Garden Curriculum college course grew sever ..read more
