What are your insights on Bird's improvisatory style?

Hey all, are you ready for the most cliche thing to hear from a jazz fan/player? Charlie Parker is far and away my favorite improvisor. Someday I'd love to play with the absolute, utter depth and emotionality in his style. Of course, I don't think I'll ever reach Bird's level, but I'm really enjoying the journey of deeply looking into his solos and finding new ways to think about jazz and new things to practice. I really want to get other people's perspectives on his playing to give me different ways to look at what he does. How does Bird influence you? What does he make you think about? sub ..read more

I'm a drummer who's mainly a fusion head and hasn't sought out much from guitarists, but Pat Metheny's solo on "Song for Bilbao" by Michael Brecker has been stuck in my head for days and I'd like recommendations for guitar stuff now

Youtube recommended me a video the other day titled "When you can't stop playing perfect lines" and boy, was it correctly titled lol I mostly listen to fusion and really like Al Di Meola (early solo stuff and with RtF) and Lee Ritenour (early solo stuff). I also love everything I've heard Bill Connors play on, which is RtF stuff, some Stanley Clarke, and a few of his 80s solo albums. I know he's not really jazz, but Zappa is also a favorite of mine. I've also come to like Allan Holdsworth more these days, and what little Larry Coryell I've heard (couple albums with Seventh House) and Pat Mart ..read more
