Saturday, May 4, 2019 Most of us do not give a single thought to horse-racing 364 days of the year (we’ve found a few other ways to entertain ourselves in the age of smartphones and streaming content).  But come the first Saturday in May, horse-racing becomes fashionable (literally) again for “The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports.” There is so much more to the Kentucky Derby, however, than those two minutes.  The race, which holds the title as America’s longest running sports event, is the centerpiece of a Southern-steeped weekend celebration (or longer if you are a local) of horses, hats ..read more

Fly private at New York JFK (JFK) to avoid bad weather delays

As the busiest of New York City’s three airports, it’s surprising that JFK Airport trails the others in terms of weather-related flight delays.  Like its counterparts, JFK gets the full monty of inclement weather (but apparently handles it better!). For those who can handle it no longer, nearby Republic Airport in Farmingdale (FRG) may be able to get you more quickly on your way. Derived from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics, reviewing a 10-year period from September 2008 to August 2018 of Weather Delay Ranking. With 126 days of snow a year, it’s not surprising that Boston Logan Airport faces its fair share of weather-related delays. According to Massport, the company that maintains Logan’s airfield, their delays aren’t only a result of snow falling in Boston, but are also caused by flight delays at other Northeast hubs for planes coming into Logan. Bad weather essentially causes a domino effect along the northeast. Further, Logan is the windiest major airport in the country. A typical Northeast cold front can produce wind gusts as high as 30 to 40 mph making it difficult to land. About 30 minutes n ..read more

Like Dallas, Houston is subject to thunderstorms, however more often and more severe.   Private flights can more easily adjust their flight paths than commercial airliners to avoid these slow-moving storms which can linger for hours.  Houston also has a plethora of alternate airports available to use that can more quickly expedite your flight once the major commercial airport backs up.  For private charters we tend to use William P Hobby Airport (HOU), which although a commercial airport handles far fewer flights than George Bush. Fly private at LaGuardia (LGA) to avoid bad weather delays

North of Newark and across the river, LaGuardia Airport also experiences a full range of weather. However, it sees far fewer passengers passing through its doors than Newark, thereby pushing it further down the list of airports experiencing weather delays.   When waylaid by weather at LaGuardia, you are equidistant from both Teterboro Airport (TEB) in New Jersey and White Plains Airport (HPN) in New York.  These two airports handle the majority of New York City’s private flights and can expedite much more quickly than the commercial airports when backlogs begin. Taking the 30 minute drive to ..read more
