Today we explore the first point of interest at the base of Longboat Mountain. Silver Vale is location A on the Longboat Mountain overview and is a small valley at the base of a waterfall. It was also once home to a silver mine (still known as silver cave) and people continue coming here seeking their fortunes. Longboat Mountain: Silver Vale (300 dpi promo) This wooded nook is the first stop along the trail up the mountain. The trail goes along the edge of the river and around the small silvery lake at the base of the waterfall. On the opposite side of Silver Lake is a small prospector camp o ..read more

Welcome to Longboat Mountain. This is the first in a series of maps detailing adventure sites and locations on the trail up to Longboat Valley high atop Longboat Mountain. The mountain is named after the wooded valley (G) near the peak of the mountain – which contains what can only be described as the skeletal wooden remains of a titanic wooden ship of titanic scale. Longboat Mountain – Overview Over this week we’ll investigate Silver Vale, sitting near the bottom of the mountain and the first stop along the trail up to Longboat Valley. Longboat Mountain – Overview (high resolution) This illu ..read more

Grudge Match at the Underground Market

Sunken markets spot the Bazaar of Sails – five oval market set ten to twelve feet below street level. Where the Bazaar is mostly temporary structures, the sunken markets contain permanent structures, workshops, food & drink, and entertainments. The Market of Wines (which only has a total of four wine houses and mostly deals in leather and bronze goods) is notable in that there is a gate between one of the wine houses and a bronze-crafter’s that leads into the sewers that drain water and waste from the bazaar. The gate and door remain unlocked, and people surreptitiously slip through them ..read more

Menrina’s Library & The Salty Tavern

The Salty Tavern isn’t especially notable – yet another place where you can sit down with some company for a drink and some food – there’s even a private dinning room for larger parties who want a little privacy. But in the basement there are a pair of secret doors. One leads down some rubble to the collapsed remains of Menrina’s Library, the other into a 15 x 10 foot room dominated by an inlaid silver circle… Menrina’s Library & The Salty Tavern (300 dpi, no commercial license) If you look over the map, there are a total of five similar small chambers, each with the circular inlay. If a ..read more

Dungeon of the Bad Egg

Based on a viewer request during stream, today we have a strange set of tombs connected by some sort of ancient ventilation system… And something foul is spreading through them. Dungeon of the Bad Egg (300 dpi promo, no commercial license) At one point, someone really cared about ventilating this small complex – a series of large clay pipes work their way through the complex at ceiling level to distribute fresh air throughout. Ancient bronze grates are mounted to the pipes where they access the various rooms, and are tarnished enough that they easily blend into the stonework unless one is spe ..read more

Axetember #14 – Asten’s Blight

Wow, I kind of forgot about this project. A few years back I drew 50 swords and made “Dyson’s Book of Swords” (available from Squarehex). Then I started on a project to try to draw 50 axes and it just didn’t stick. But I’m trying to draw more things, so here’s Axe #14. A hefty one-handed axe wielded by the Barbarian “Prince” Asten as he led his hordes across the Summer Lands, this weapon is a hand axe +1 that can drain the enemy’s might with savage blows (on a natural 20, it deals 1d6 damage to the target’s Strength and Constitution ..read more

Iseldec’s Drop (Levels 5-8)

Iseldec’s Drop (Levels 5-8) (300 dpi promo, no commercial license) Here we descend further beneath the stony ruins of Iseldec’s tower. We are reminded that the dungeons beneath reach at least as deep underground as Iseldec’s tower once reached above the lands – a vertical shaft connects untold small dungeon levels that seem to cling tightly around it. The shaft itself is open to the levels above, and pierces all the way to the ruins as it once continued into the tower proper. Iseldec’s Drop (Levels 5-8) (1200 dpi) These four levels of “Iseldec’s Drop” again repeat the tightness of the design o ..read more

Wow, I kind of forgot about this project. A few years back I drew 50 swords and made “Dyson’s Book of Swords” (available from Squarehex). Then I started on a project to try to draw 50 axes and it just didn’t stick. But I’m trying to draw more things, so here’s Axe #13 An old and abused weapon, the haft of this axe is blackened from age and heat. Faint runes are carved into it and partially filled with old crumbling clay. It is a battle axe +1, +3 vs plant creatures with the ability to cast speak with plants (typically very intimidatingly) once per day ..read more
