When I tried the restaurant Solstice during my last trip to Paris, I was sure – or almost – that the Michelin guide would add a star to its 2020 list. Not surprisingly, I was right! Congratulations to Eric Trochon and his team for this outstanding achievement. Eric Trochon was elected Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2011. In 2019, with his Korean wife and sommelier, they joined forces and created a welcoming and elegant space. Being at the corner of rue Claude Bernard and rue Bertholet in the 5th arrondissement in Paris, the restaurant has big bay windows on each side of the façade, bringing sun ..read more

Le Chateaubriand in Paris

I didn’t plan it this way, but finishing my stay in Paris with the restaurant Le Chateaubriand was perfect: a blend of French bistro style and gastronomy food. I didn’t read many reviews about the restaurant, but after looking at the pictures on Google I thought, if this casual bistro has a Michelin star, then the dishes must be as good as they are beautiful. I was well inspired indeed! The creativity of chef Iñaki Aizpitarte has no limit, and the place has a vibrant bistro atmosphere. It’s maybe not suited for picky eaters, as there is one and only one set menu, take it or leave it! I don’t k ..read more

Maison Aleph in Paris

Revisit, reshape, reconstruct; this is exactly what Myriam Sabet did with the Middle Eastern pastries at Maison Aleph. While using the right ingredients and flavors, she wasn’t afraid to refashion traditions and come up with these delicious bite-size pastries. Myriam Sabet is from Aleppo, Syria, a city I know quite well, as my father grew up there. We used to go often to visit the family; I still have memories from the past. Although it’s been a while, there are scents and tastes that remind me of the beautiful city of Aleppo: spices such as clove and cardamom and flavors like rose water ..read more

Montée in Paris!

Takayuki Nameura, born and raised in Japan, arrived in Paris in 2016 and opened his own restaurant: Montée. And just like that, he received his first Michelin star in 2018! Montée is a French restaurant located in a quiet street in the 14th arrondissement, close to the 6th and the Jardin de Luxembourg. The restaurant is quite narrow and divided into three parts. The front room that can accommodate 16 people is bright and calm. The bay windows at the front of the restaurant can be completely opened during summer time. The walls, napkins, and tablecloths are all white and the floor is made of li ..read more

Sellae by Thibault Sombardier

I previously mentioned chef Thibault Sombardier in a couple of my blog posts. He’s no stranger to worldfooddina! Apparently, it’s not enough to be the chef at the one Michelin-starred restaurant Antoine; he’s also the owner of Mensae (table in Latin) and now Sellae (chair in Latin) in the 13th arrondisssement. I tried Mensae in February and I absolutely loved it; thus I was very excited to try the new Thibault Sombardier restaurant: Sellae. Both restaurants share the same concept: a simple, casual, and welcoming atmosphere. The ingredients are particularly fresh, and the price is low; this is ..read more

Fulgurances

Fulgurances is a springboard for ambitious and talented sous-chefs attempting to cut their teeth on shrewd patrons ready to play the game before hopefully one day opening their own restaurant. What’s unique at Fulgurances is that chefs change throughout the year: the restaurant, the location, and the team stay, but each new chef brings his or her own flavor. A group of three young entrepreneurs started this challenge in the 11th arrondissement in Paris. They wisely pick a sous-chef who will represent their establishment for the time being, and they don’t hesitate to go beyond French borders to ..read more

Les Tables d’Augustin

Paris is known for its high number of restaurants: there are so many that you can end up starving going from one restaurant to another, not being able to make up your mind. Of course, there are all the high-end restaurants, delicious and expensive. But we are not all Rothschilds, are we? There are also the brasseries, the bistros, the cafés, …the ones I particularly love are the little gastronomic bistros – bistronomie – run by talented chefs that offer fantastic meals at affordable prices. Les tables d’Augustin is one of them. A tiny bistro in the 17e arrondissement managed by a young chef, H ..read more

Du Pain et des Idées – Bakery

People enter the bakery du pain et des idées because it’s a beautiful store, they buy the bread and viennoiseries because they are mouthwatering, and finally, they come back because it is simply delicious! Christophe Vasseur couldn’t have dreamed of a better spot to open his bakery. I’m not referring to the location; there are many perfect locations in Paris, but the décor of this place is stunning!  Built in 1870, it looks straight out of Marcel Proust’s books: all the murals, the mirrors, and the painted glass ceilings are originals. Un vrai bijou! (A real gem!) After workin ..read more

Those who have been following me for a while know by now my passion for Japanese fusion cuisine. L’inconnu is no exception to the rule: a combination of Italian cuisine and local products orchestrated by a talented Japanese chef, Koji Higaki. Higaki-san, after working in Osaka, moved to Venice, Italy to deepen his knowledge of Italian cuisine. In 2009, he decided that Paris would be the next step in his career. He worked for Passage 53 – a two Michelin-starred restaurant – as a sous-chef, and in 2015 he fulfilled his dream by opening his own restaurant: L’Inconnu. I went to the restaurant know ..read more

La Maison Rose – On My Way To Montmartre…

So many famous figures in the worlds of art and literature have stepped onto the floor of La Maison Rose and most of us have no idea! Some of these people have been immortalized in paintings and others contributed to one of the turning points in art. If La Maison Rose – the Pink House – is now the center of attraction for tourists visiting Montmartre, it was at some point the heartland for many artists, such as Bernard Buffet, Maurice Utrillo, and of course Pablo Picasso. Corner rue des Saules and rue de l’Abreuvoir Laure Germaine Cargallo, who was Picasso’s model, friend, and lover in 19 ..read more
