If you know me, you know I’m a big fan of Cricut. So when I found out Cricut was releasing a new heat press I had to try it out. I’ve been wanting to make some Collective Gen shirts for myself and the team for a while now and I figured this would be the perfect tool to use. For this project I could have used Cricut’s EasyPress 2 Heat Press, but I was lucky enough to have the chance to try out their new Autopress machine. The Autopress did an amazing job and took half the time.   Cricut’s New Autopress  I’ve used my EasyPress 2 and EasyPress Mini so many times in the past to create p ..read more

Mother’s Day is such a good time of year to get creative, if anyone is going to love a handmade project it’s the mother, or mother figure, in your life! One thing I’ve always wanted to try is hand engraving jewellery, so when I recently got my hands on the amazing new Dremel Lite I knew the project that I would experiment with. The Dremel Lite is a lightweight version of my favourite rotary tool, and so perfect starting out or smaller projects – like mastering engraving! Dremel has also launched a whole collection of new accessory kits, and so I decided to experiment with those for this p ..read more

Make This Terry Towelling Top and Shorts Set

We have been loving the trend for terry towelling and with springtime and sunnier days just around the corner (for us in the Southern Hemisphere) we couldn’t stop thinking of creating a two piece set from this cute fabric. But the search for the perfect terry material was a little bit tricky – nice Terry cloth seemed to be expensive, and too thick and we knew the material wouldn’t translate very well into clothing. So for this project we actually found lightweight towels at Spotlight that were the perfect thinness to fashion into a very wearable two piece set. For this set we create a sim ..read more

How To Make Cloth Face Masks (An Easy Sewing Tutorial)
Collective Gen » Style

With mandatory masks enforced in some areas of Australia due to Covid19, we wanted to create an easy cloth mask design that you can make at home. When wearing the mask ensure that your mouth, nose and chin are covered, and adjust as best you can so that there are no gaps, making sure to avoid touching the front of the mask while you are wearing it. This design is reusable, simply wash at home with hot water and detergent. It is recommended to wash it after each use and don’t forget to use clean hands when you take the mask on and off. Please note this design is in line with local guidelines to ..read more

Linen. Wrap. Skirt. Need we say more? A great in-between season wardrobe addition that would be a great paired with a white button down shirt for summer, or as the weather cools layered with tonal knits. The pattern for this skirt is modelled off a one you already own, and the beauty of this wrap style is that the fit is very forgiving so your pattern doesn’t have to be 100% perfect to the millimeter. We like that! For best results, start with an a-line mini skirt that doesn’t have any stretch to it, a denim skirt is a good option you’ll likely have in your wardrobe. The other pro for thi ..read more

With more of us spending time at home at the moment we thought it was the perfect time to update our loungewear wardrobe with a lovely linen robe! There’s nothing like a little bow detail to add interest to a simple top. We dreamt up this cute tie front top envisaging effortless white linen accented by a minimal not-too feminine bow. Adding just the right amount of detail, we’re picturing this tied over a bikini in summertime, layered over other linens with our favourite straw hat… or in cooler weather worn with the tie peeking out from beneath a blazer to add a feminine twist to an ultra minimal ensemble. DIY Tiered Off The Shoulder Dress
Collective Gen » Style

Say hello to one of my favourite projects, well, ever! Gathered styles were what I cut my teeth on when I was first learning to sew, that is, ones where you pretty much just add elastic to rectangles of fabric to create skirts, dresses and tops. Although crazy easy, there are soooo many different variations of this style. I’m actually working on another design as we speak, in between Frankie’s naps that is! But for now, I wanted to share with you a style that saw me through my pregnancy – the gathered off the shoulder dress… Made fancy thanks to a tiered skirt. So floaty, so roomy and so so fu ..read more
