Ew, fungus. Impressions: This is the first episode that was more like what I expected of this show, though it did have me worried at the start as it spent the first five or so minutes doing local regional schtick again. Thankfully, the rest of it moved into a pretty standard zombie/cultist/Children of the Corn kind of schtick, except with head mushrooms. I don't think it actually executed on it all that well though. Too much of the early stuff relied on the characters being excessively…well.. dumb, which, sure, is a horror movie trope, but not to this level. Especially with how muc ..read more

Like that's rare in anime. Impressions: I was really hoping at least one of the shounen shows would be tolerable, but optimism is running thin. Both share a lot of problems. Wildly inconsistent and inappropriate tone. Nonsensical settings. Violence that it can't seem to decide whether or not is serious or on the level of Looney Tunes. They both introduce literal clowns and tried to hype them up as serious antagonists to be taken seriously, not helped by the terrible, completely inept protagonists who are barely capable of attempting the absolute minimum but have nonetheless spent the la ..read more

It'll be a reaction face mine, if nothing else. Impressions: It's almost quaint seeing a show that's trying to exist entirely on reaction faces, and yet, preferable to the ones that are doing the same, but for RPG status screens. But after multiple shows of being yelled at, I'm pretty over-reactioned out for the day, if not the entire season. I think it's the superficiality here that doesn't work for me. On both their parts. The first girl who sees a highschool band for 30 seconds and is so overcome with puberty that it's now the only thing in her life that she cares about, and the one ..read more

God, I love looking at gauges and navigating menus. Impressions: Second to last show of the season, but last of the goddamned reincarnation in RPG world things. Dude beats the last boss, wakes up in fantasy world with all his cheat powers intact, proceeds to spend next 16 minutes standing at counters and sitting at tables. Now that's exciting fantasy. But don't worry, he also immediately finds a cursed elf who decided to wear nothing but nipple covers above the waist, and three ribbons below. She's cursed and only he can free her. So it's off to the city to visit another waitress w ..read more

I can say that at least I definitely didn't need another twenty minutes of hyperactive yelling. Impressions: Though the characters aren't really endearing themselves to me all that much either. Nor was the whole bit where the random idol gave her a life lesson and healed her soul in a quick 90 second conversation. …So she decided to eat her and steal her identity. Okay, maybe not part of that, but it certainly would've spiced up the episode. She just colored her hair to be more like her perfect idol, while the manic pixie girl also became superimposed with the ghost of her idol, be ..read more

And yelling. A whole lot of yelling. Impressions: There's something deeply weird about a giant monster overrunning the city, killing at least dozens, more likely thousands, leveling all of downtown, and crowds turning out to cheer on the government because there's an attractive girl. "Hot damn! A terrorist attack. That means I'll get to see that dreamy Brian Williams on screen! Squeee!" But there's also the main dude, who it keeps assuring us is totally 30 years old while acting like a particularly excitable 6 year old. Or perhaps a terrier. There is no reaction but overreaction. There ..read more

Why has no other director discovered this genius approach to drama? Impressions: I would say that it doesn't understand streaming at all, but then it also has people using ramen noodles as flails, a dude kicking in the door to a not-McDonalds to scream at a cashier and everybody's like "well, he's a streamer, and they're allowed to do that," and viral videos pay out in cash, instantly. Also, hospitals love it when you pay in cash. They're also the only place in the entire city that adults are allowed to exist. So there's… a lot… here above and beyond the nonsensical premise that th ..read more

Slap some blood on it. That'll be horror-ish. Impressions: We start out with some kid undressing, then right to the OP that jumps straight to multiple pans over the main girl being topless. Not so much horror or mystery here as blatant fanservice. Which would be toned down a bit in the actual episode, at least in the visuals. Just a little bit though. And definitely not in the script, because both characters can't help but remark on her boobs, butt, bra, or status of her virginity every third line or so. Which is actually preferable to the long explanation of the mystery of th ..read more

Boy, what a show about biking this is. Impressions: This has a lot in common with the royal crow show, of all things. It's way too many characters, all female with names slapped on them at random in hopes of anybody remembering them, sitting around in a room, most without a thought in their heads, speaking incomprehensibly about something I couldn't care any less about, with a long aside to be fanservicey as hell. Sure, the details differ. Instead of having overly elaborate costumes, they get naked and just stew in a bath, they're younger, and they're pissing around about biking instead ..read more
