Divers: Youri, Paul, Tim, Josh, Jim, Vaughn & Mark Surface Crew: Geoff “never before, have so many, owed so much, to so few” – Geoff Nayler & Jim Anderson were good mates & dive buddies in the 1970s, it was these two guys along with their other dive friends that discovered & dived many of the wrecks in the Ships Graveyard, including the J Class Subs. They first dived the J2 Sub on 10th February 1974 & then the J2 Sub on 4th May 1974. Today, we dived the J2 Sub with Vaughn Nayler (Geoff’s son) 50 years after after Geoff & Jim dived it. Having Geoff on board was a real th ..read more

Divers: Pete, Ben, Chris, Guy, Youri, Paul, Seb, Bas, Nathan & Mark The amazing dive conditions continue as we steam out through the Heads, its nice and early, so we had no traffic on the road & plenty of parking at the pier. The boat is full to capacity & full of stage tanks & scooters. The Euro, a Tug Boat was scuttled in 1948, although based in South Australia, she towed many a vessel to Melbourne. The Euro is always a hit with divers & the fun penetration impresses the first time diver every time.    Mark      The post Euro – Saturday 4th May 2 ..read more

Coogee & J4 sub – Sunday 28th April 2024

Divers: Pete, Ben, Chris, Guy & Mark It was champagne diving this morning, with only us five on the boat. The conditions were great & the viz certainly improved greatly over night. With the sun shining & no wind at all, today is just perfect for diving.  We don’t get to dive the Coogee all that often, but when do it is always a great dive. The swell had picked up slightly while we did our surface interval, so we chose not to swim through the Crew’s Quarters, however conditions were fine for swimming through the sub. We exited the sub through the engine openings, which put us a ..read more

Castle Rock & Devils Drop Off – Saturday 27th April 2024

Divers: Matt, Mitch, Aiden, Tim, Fiona, Emma, Em, Rebecca, Jemimah & Mark Our ride through the Heads was a little lumpy with the strong ebb tides pushing against the wind, but once we were out the swell flattened off. The swim around the rock was most enjoyable & very cruisey. Devils Drop Off had better viz & drifting with the very slight current allowed us to cover quite a bit of territory with little effort. Matt & I came across 3 large Bull Rays & the fish life was buzzing around edge of the wall. Overall it was a couple of great dives & certainly worth the effort of ..read more

Mornington Pier – Sunday 21st April 2024

Divers: Matt, Ben E, Arthur, Youri, Simon, Jim & Mark Conditions were perfect at Mornington this morning & I was surprised to be the only team out diving there, although a pair of divers were walking down the pier as we were getting out. The fishermen were out in force though & many had multiply rods in the water. We divided up in to two teams to make doing our skills easier to manage. The water temperature was 17degrees & the viz was about 7-8 metres – until the silt was disturbed :). As always lunch was high on the agenda, it’s amazing how good a coffee tastes after an hour i ..read more

Canberra & J4 Sub – Saturday 13th April 2024
Aquability

Divers: Matt, Tyler & Mark Our dives were planned for Saturday, however, the weather dictated that we dive on Sunday – some times you just have top roll with the waves. We dived the Canberra first, aw usual it was surgy & the viz was not great, but it was certainly OK for what we wanted. The boat was full & that showed on the wreck its self, finding a quiet spot to yourself was difficult. We completed our planned bottom time and then shot our SMB to start the ascent. There was quite a bit of surge but not much current to talk & we surfaced not all that far from thee shot line ..read more

Divers: Weng, Susan, Youri, Ben, Chris, Simon, Seb, Nath & Josh The weather forecast was good, getting better & we were all looking forward to getting back into water after a couple of weeks of no diving. Apart from the fact that viz on the bottom wasn’t all that good, all other conditions were great. We were diving off Dive Victoria’s recently refitted Hermes. Certainly the egress out of the water, back onto the boat is far better than any of their other boats. Getting into the water takes some planning, but, it is nice to be able to back in to the boat with minimal effort. The jury i ..read more

Coogee & J4 Sub – Sunday 10th March 2024

Divers: Matt, Ben, Bas, Pete, James, Seb, Nath & Mark The conditions today were perfect for a graveyard dive with the strong northerlies, and with the lack rain lately the viz was really good. Its been a while since we last dived the Coogee, which I think is one of the better shallower wrecks, it has plenty of structure to swim around, the main features being the bow, boilers, hatches & of the course the iconic stern – a must, for the photographer. The J4 Sub was a great dive, there was a small amount of surge running through the sub, but still very manageable. Of course, our attention ..read more

Divers: Matt, Mitch, Diego, Aiden, Andrew, Angus, Jarrod, Jackson, Nolan, Maciek, Shannon, Mark N, Liam, James, Fiona & Mark Fortunately for us the temperature didn’t get to the predicted 38 degrees, in fact it was quite pleasant out on the water. Our first dive was at Popes eye on the flood tide, so we were restricted in where we could swim, but there were plenty of seals to swim with and the fish life was amazing. The Grotto is always an interesting dive with it many and varied bommies, swim throughs & overhangs the highlight of the dive might have been the Port Jackson sharks, but t ..read more

Divers Alex, Mitch, Sean, Mark, David and James. For our last Summer dive we were taken by Mick, (Dive Vic’s skipper) to a his secret scallop beds located somewhere in Port Philip Bay. The dive was not without its challenges, but it’s the challenges that keep divers alert and prepared, making us all better divers.  On the bottom the scallops fluttered around like butterflies.  All we had to do was reach out and collect them.  Most importantly we all had a great time, we all got back on the boat safely, and we all get to look forward to diving another day. For those that did coll ..read more
