This past summer I had the opportunity to attend the Handle with Care Workshop featuring three top notch potters. It took place just down the road in Goshen on June 24th and 25th. Though it happened 6 months ago, I still recall many of the tips, techniques and conversations from this workshop. Featured Potters Todd Pletcher Todd was the host and did a fantastic job pulling off this great experience. Unfortunately for the Michiana pottery community, it was also like a big going away party because Todd and his family moved to the other side of the world soon after it was over. I returned to the Northern Indiana Pottery Supply stop on the Michiana Pottery Tour this year. It was my third year as part of the tour (2014, 2015). Our lineup had some familiar faces, some relatively new potters and some old pros from around the country. Troy Bungart – pots, brushes and ribs David – TV interview I set up next to David Gamber who hauled his pots all the way from New Jersey. Nearby were southern Michigan potters Peter Fauver and Greg Allen. Across the aisle was Matt Wright, a grad student at Texas Tech who creates ceramic drums! We had a handful of ..read more

I returned to the Middlebury Fall Festival for the fourth time in September. There were many similarities to previous years (2013, 2014, 2015) but this year there were a few small changes. A video posted by Brandon “Fuzzy” Schwartz (@artbyfuzzy) on Sep 16, 2016 at 7:36am PDT Less Visitors The turnout seemed to be down this year. I heard that there were some vendors that didn’t return as well. Friday evening was apparently homecoming at the local high school which probably stole some potential visitors. Then it rained for a while on Saturday morning. The sun finally came out and it turned ..read more

Cups from the First Half (of 2016)

Here is a selection of cups from early 2016. Let’s start small: The cup on the left is Amaco Buff Stoneware. On the right is Standard 182 clay. A new and exciting effect but it crazes like… crazy… Here are a couple cups that were faceted and textured on the pottery wheel. In the style of On-Wheel Alteration Master, Dick Lehman. I also started experimenting with a little texture. Some interesting results but still needs some more work. I hope to add some of these to my Etsy shop in the next week or two. Keep your eyes peeled. Shoot me a message if there is one that you want me ..read more

Mugs from the First Half (of 2016)

I’ve fired the kiln a couple times so far in 2016 with good results for the most part. All mugs are wheel thrown stoneware fired to cone 6. I’m starting to figure out the Jen’s Juicy Fruit glaze. It does what I want most of the time and is also random enough to stay interesting. A few mugs for Jefferson Elementary. Thanks for taking a look. Some of these mugs will find their way to Etsy in the near future. Follow me there to stay updated. Bowls and cups are next! After meeting Steve Gruber during the Michiana Pottery Tour he asked me to sign up for the Elkhart ArtWalk. I couldn’t make it to the first one he asked me to be a part of but I signed up for the first ArtWalk of 2016 on May 11. My application was accepted and I was paired with Lori and Jeff and their awesome space, Our Place on Main. They live upstairs and use the downstairs as a space to host events. I hauled my pots over there the weekend before the event. They provided me with plenty of tables and nice black table cloths. I had gone through, checked prices and re-packed my pots the d ..read more
