Okay so I (23M) graduated from nursing school 2023 in may with my BSN, took me 2 month to prepare and pass my NCLEX. Took another 7 months to just chill from the stress that nursing school gave me and. I landed a job in a surgical stepdown unit, have been on clinical orientation for about 3 weeks now and nursing is hard to say the least. I feel like I know nothing due to the gap of being away from healthcare related endeavor. I also have no healthcare experience whatsoever which makes me feel soooooo out of place. My orientation has been started on days but I will be working nights. My precep ..read more

Looking for any and all suggestions here! In 2021 I had to temporarily leave nursing to care for my young children during Covid. In 2022 I let my WA state license expire as I did not meet the practice requirements to maintain licensure. My family moved to Oregon around this time, and I figured I would be able to reinstate my license in OR with possibly a re-entry program or something along those lines when I was ready to re enter the field. I decided to reach out to OR’s DOL today to get on top of the transfer requirements so I could start planning and found out that given these circumstances ..read more

What are some nursing jobs with no call or OT?

I am an OR nurse currently and I am miserable. I’ve just never experienced a hostile and toxic work environment to this level in any job, and I really also dislike call. I learned my lesson with that and I’ll never take another job that requires it, so I’m wondering if anyone has ideas as far as jobs that don’t involve it. I want to work my shifts and leave, that’s it. I’ve applied to a few behavioral health positions and hoping one works out, but I’m sure there are things I haven’t thought of that are out there. I honestly am also looking outside of nursing too because I’m not willing to sac ..read more

I’m so tired of torturing patients

Don’t get me wrong, I love ICU, but sometimes this shit is too much. We have a patient with a hx of cancer, and now it’s pancreatic. She never wanted extreme measures taken, but now she’s vented and she’s been flayed open with multiple surgical drains and wounds. Even maxed on her analgesics, it is clear that a she’s in pain—and now she’s off all analgesia so they can extubate and have a chat with her about what she wants. She’s in agony with all of her mental faculties still intact, and I don’t want to be a part of it anymore. I have apologized to her for what we’re putting her through. Trie ..read more

This past week, I had a lady for two nights who was pretty sick. She was in her 80s, ESRD on HD M, W, F and has CHF. Lady came in with c/o SOB because apparently her Friday Dialysis didn’t take enough fluid out. She had JVD, and her liver enzymes were elevated. Her scans showed that she had fluid in her lungs and pneumonitis. I did not admit her but I got her the day she was admitted to my floor. I work on a step down unit. She came back to my floor after dialysis. The day shift nurse had doxy running. I took her blood pressure and she was hypotensive in the 80s (confirmed with a manual) and ..read more
