Another Century break in Montreal This Week

We are not sure what is in the water in the province of Quebec, but another century break has been made at Snooker Canada Headquarters, this time by a gentleman named Michael Zakini. The interesting thing about this one is that Zakini made a run of 99 a half an hour later. Like many snooker players, Zakini took a few years off from the game for various reasons, however, he is certainly back on the baize and enjoying every minute of it. Congrats to Michael and we look forward to seeing how he competes next month at the Canadian Championships, which will also take place in Montreal. The post Ano ..read more

In a tournament that saw 52 players competing, and with a waiting list to boot, snooker in BC is going in the right direction.   It looked like it wasn’t going to be this way as the defending champion was in tough with his quarterfinalist opponent John Robertson.  Robertson who was up 2-1 in the best of 5 match was looking poised to knock out the champ, but Kenny found some of that snooker mojo that we know he possesses and crawled back in this match to achieve victory.  From there it was no turning back as he defeated the young Alvin Chan 3-1 in the semi finals.   Mehran M ..read more

Team Wu was able to achieve victory by defeating the team of Peter Singh, Rick Marshall and Gary Wallace by a scoreline of 4-2.  We did have a total of 5 teams and hopefully next year we can have more.   It is nice to see players cheering on their fellow players as most of our tournaments we have are individual.  Lots of exciting matches throughout the tournament.  There were some hiccups along the way, but being the first one it is expected.  Hopefully we can iron out those kinks for next year’s tournament.  On a whole, I think the players like the di ..read more

Mehran Maneshgar just edges out a veteran of the game Dalton Roy.  It went all the way to a decider and Maneshgar just had a bit more in the tank to achieve a tournament victory.  This is Maneshgar’s second victory in a qualifying event, so the rules state that his opponent will get the spot in the knockout round in the BC Open.  Dalton Roy made a wonderful return to these competitions as being the runner up he secures his spot in the BC Open.  A lot of close matches on Saturday and the level of play keeps growing. Big thanks to Jonathan Sun that filled in for Dav ..read more

Alvin Chan and Gary Wallace won their respective divisions in the fall session of the CSL.   A great session that saw a nice mix of new players and players that have been at the game for a long time.   Alvin Chan put in an impressive performance.  He didn’t lose a frame in the entire session and had a break of 102 in one of his matches.  Alvin, who won the first BC Open qualifier in September, is looking to be a big favourite when the BC Open goes down in March.   Gary Wallace was able to beat out Rajbir Singh in the final, 3-1, to collect the trophy.  G ..read more

Snooker Canada is pleased to announce the expansion of its coaching program as it is now positioned to stretch beyond its local borders.  This comes with the help of our new international head coach and examiner, Mr. Arshad Qureshi of AQ Snooker.   “It is a wonder how the international snooker community has not taken more advantage of Mr. Qureshi’s skills and passion for the game” says Snooker Canada President, Patrick Guigui.  “He is a diamond in the rough and if there were more people like him in our sport, it would speed up what needs to be  done to develop things   ..read more
