My Grandma cooked amazing pancakes. She made parcels of them for all the family – she must have made hundreds over the years – neat stacks divided by greaseproof paper. I haven’t quite mastered her skills but love to have a go at flipping pancakes with my children. Classic lemon and sugar is still our favourite filling! Here is a classic pancake recipe to serve with lemon and sugar taken from The Dairy Book of Home Cookery and two twists on the classic if you fancy a change? Why is February such a short month?
Dairy Diary Chat

We all know that February is the shortest month of the year with either 28 days or 29 in a leap year – but why is this the case when other months have 30 or 31 days? Thirty days have November, April, June, and September. February has 28 alone, And all the rest have 31. Well, it’s just one of the things that the Romans did for us! Try Geocaching – Half Term Treasure Hunt Fun
Dairy Diary Chat

I love a treasure hunt! As a child, my friend and I would spend hours planning treasure hunts around the house and garden with hand-drawn maps and chocolate treasure! I now make them for my children every so often – usually to encourage them to walk a bit further without moaning. They do, however, take quite a bit of planning so I was pleased when I discovered geocaching – it’s like a big, free treasure hunt right on your doorstep (or wherever you happen to be in the world). If you’ve not tried geocaching here is some info about what it is and how you can have a go! READ THE FULL ARTICL ..read more

The first Sunday in February is Yorkshire Pudding Day!

Pride of the north and an essential accompaniment to the most British of meals – the Sunday Roast – the Yorkshire pudding is one of my ultimate comfort foods The first recorded recipe of the Yorkshire Pudding date back to the 18th century. In the 1737 book called The Whole Duty of a Woman, reference was made to “dripping puddings” as they were originally made from the dripping that fell from the meat as it was roasted on the open fire.
