Too Much Seasoning?
Al Hughes Ministries

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt…”  (Colosssians 4:6)      A person cannot get too much Bible preaching.  Paul wrote, “Despise not prophesyings” (1 Thessalonians 5:20).  I listen to preaching at church, on my iPhone, and my computer.      I like all kinds of preaching, as long as it is out of the Bible.  I like long preaching (Acts 20:7-12)… I like short preaching… I like dry preaching… I like wet preaching (except while I’m sitting on the front pew)… I like hot pre ..read more

The Christian Response to a Hostile Government
Al Hughes Ministries

I was recently asked: “If the government ever comes to our home for our guns, do we fight back until they take us out? Or do we just give up the guns? I’m worried they will eventually take us away and enslave us or kill us for not complying with their new standards… and we wouldn’t be able to defend ourselves without our guns.” There is a lot of talk amongst conservative commentators about being censored and losing the right to free speech that is guaranteed in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I thank God that I am an American citizen. But first, and foremost, I am a Christian an ..read more

Who Is Your “Gentile?”
Al Hughes Ministries

WHO IS YOUR “GENTILE?” Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves. (Acts 28:28-29) The Jews loved to talk about Abraham and the patriarchs. They enjoyed discussing Moses and the law. They would sing the praises of King David. However, when the Gentiles would be mentioned, the Jews had nothing good to say about them. To the Jews, the Gentiles were dogs. They avoided Gentiles like the plague. In fact, when Jesus referred to Elijah and ..read more

Death is a “Fixer” He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. –Revelation 22:11 When developing photographic film, the exposed film is placed in various chemical solutions that make the film develop.  The final solution is called the “fixer.” This solution fixes image at its current exposure.  The fixer solution STOPS the developing process at whatever point the photo is placed in the fixer solution. Death is like this photographic fixer ..read more

“LITTLE BY LITTLE”

“Little By Little” By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land” (Exodus 23:30). God told Israel they would not defeat their enemies in one day… or one week… or one month, nor all in one year!  But little by little, in due time, by the power of God, the children of Israel would defeat their enemies and possess the promise land. The “little by little” principle states that some things take more time than other things depending on your capacity to handle them or receive them. Patience is needed!      Rome wasn ..read more

The Strange Case Eldad and Medad

The Strange Case of Eldad and Medad Numbers 11 is all about complainers. One of those situations concerns two men named Eldad and and Medad (vs. 26-29). Their story begins as Moses asks God for some help in leading Israel. God tells Moses to gather seventy elders at the tabernacle and He would anoint them to help (vs. 16-17). Soon Joshua lodges a complaint, “Hey Moses, there are two renegades preaching in the camp. They are out of order!  This is not the way it should to be done. It’s supposed to take place at the tabernacle. You need to put a stop to this!”(vs. 26-28). Joshua did not und ..read more

I’m Lost!

I’M LOST! Barb and I took a mini-vacation to Flagstaff, AZ this week. Flagstaff is beautiful and much cooler than where we live in Florence, AZ. The elevation of Flagstaff is almost 7,000 feet. Today (August 6) I decided to go for a “little stroll” and enjoy the mild temps and breeze. However, that “little stroll” turned out to be about an eight mile hike. As I walked down South Lake Mary Road I spotted a nice looking trail. I figured the trail would come out near where Barb and I were staying, so I took it. At first the trail was about eight feet wide and level. As I walked the trail graduall ..read more
