I'm contemplating a move from NYC to Philly. My questions are for you art world people who have done this move. Do you feel good about the decision and feel at home or did you rethink the move? For artists-are you able to make sales and have studio visits or do you find yourself commuting and transporting work a lot? Are you able to find adjunct teaching or other p/t work that supports home + studio rent costs easily enough? I'd love to hear from you other art workers also-gallerists, curators, this is for you too. And lastly, energy. Has the transition in the day-to-day energy been good for ..read more

As an artist this is probably one of the things I’ve had a really hard time with internally in the last few years.
I see my peers around my age being successful with their work, getting residencies, getting signed with galleries, having big opportunities to show and exhibit. I have had some small breaks but nothing substantial. As much as I am excited about what I’m doing, I can’t help but wonder if I’m just not making the “right” kind of work, or that I’m not “playing the game” well enough by networking, or somehow worried that I’m “behind”.
There is a saying, “you can’t compare your beginni ..read more

I am looking for some suggestions on artist residencies that are open for international artists (American) who are emerging artists. I am really looking for a new landscape, new connections, meet new people, focus on new work and see the other side of the world. I’m from Midwest region USA and don’t have a ton of connections and have traveled a lot in the USA looking for a place I might like to live or relocate and I’m not satisfied with anything, or it doesn’t feel right for some reason. I think I need to see other places, and I’d really like to experience more European cultures as I’ve been ..read more

To the art advisors of the community,
Do you consider it appropriate for artists to initiate contact with you? If so, I'm curious to know which topics you find acceptable for discussion or how you could offer valuable assistance to artists.

I want to see if anyone had a similar experience and what they advise.
During a recent art festival me and another 2 artists created a painting between all of them (each one contributed with a part) that we agreed to give away.
Once the piece was finished, we all thought it was a great one and all wanted to make a digital file to sell as prints in the future.
We all talked after the show and agree everyone could sell the prints individually and keep their income. What each artist sells is for them. Meaning if I sell 20 prints I do not own the artists anything. We will be not sharing the incom ..read more

I'm doing a mockup of an exhibition I'm planning (paintings, performance, and installations), and was trying to use SketchUp but it's frustrating to use. Does anyone have a better alternative? Also, other software outside the Adobe suite that artists find really useful? Thanks!
