Armenian guitarist and composer, Pardy Minassian, has recently recorded some new videos in our showroom. Pardy came to the United States for the first time to study with Maestro Scott Tennant at the USC Thornton School of Music. During her recent visit, she recorded four videos on four different guitars. Her recording session started with Erik Satie’s “Gnossienne No.1” performed on a c. 1840-1850 “Early Vienna school” guitar. Recently, a new guitar duo visited our showroom to record videos. The Bassett Bros. are identical twins performing various musical styles, from medieval to Metallica. The list of their repertoire includes works from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods, all the way to contemporary styles, such as rock, blues and heavy metal. French master luthier from Paris, Dominique Field, has almost finished building his next guitar for GSI. We’ve received some sneak peek photos from him. The instrument looks absolutely remarkable. The photos show the highest level of craftsmanship proving that he is one of the elite makers in the world right now. The third annual James Stroud Classical Guitar Competition will open application submissions very soon! This year, high school students ages 14-18 who reside in the United States will have the chance to compete for great cash prizes with $24,000 in total prize money, which includes a $10,000 first prize. Russian-born guitar maker based in Granada, Pavel Gavryushov, has just finished building another guitar for us which will be shipped to GSI very soon! Pavel’s guitars are built in the classical Spanish style. He mainly incorporates Torres’ building techniques, but he supplements them with some methods developed by the leading luthiers of the twentieth century.
