Doing as I was doing some scouting and putting up trail cameras, I came across these bad boys. Don’t look like elk or moose thrashing cause the trees are too big and they seem too uniform. Maybe bear? But it looks more like chewing? About 3-5 feet up the tree. Location is western Alberta foothills.

Got into hunting this year, pulled an elk tag so need it for that as well as coyotes
All I've been recommended is savage arms and Remington 700. I've decided to aim for a Remington 700 tactical sps in either 308 or 6.5CM, open to other options as far as rifle and caliber. What are your thoughts on that?
Also need a good optic, I was wanting an atn thermal scope around the 1200-2000 range. Any recommendations or reviews on those?
Thanks for the help!

Winchester SX4, 3.5" Federal TSS 7&9 shot. 35 yards.

I had a news alert on my phone pop up about this and did some looking into it. I found this article to be a bit better than the clickbait-y one that popped up on the alert, but there's only a couple articles out at the moment and they have very different takes on it.
Basically, a recently published study from 2022 looked at a case of a hunter and his friend who both developed sporadic CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) after eating venison from a deer population known to be infected with CWD which could suggest the first known transmission of CWD to humans. Would it be obvious from examining internal organs such as the liver etc?
The main reason I ask is because I live in the suburbs and often shoot/eat squirrels out of my garden. I never thought about it until recently, but a family member asked me if doing so was safe due to the chances of the squirrels eating rat poison somebody may have put out in their garden etc.
Any knowledge y’all could share with me in this regard would be extremely helpful!

Looking at buying some property with the crazy prices right now I’m about to settle for less than I really want. I found a decent piece of property 5 acres with a house. Do y’all think 5 wooded acres is enough?
