My 2020 Goals
The Classy Teacher
by

Are you the type of person who loves to set goals every January when the calendar rolls over to a new year? I'm definitely that type of person. I've always loved a new year, whether it be a new school year or a new calendar year. It always feels like a do over. As a teacher I feel like I get two do overs every year.  One in August and one in January. My professional goals for 2020 are big overarching goals. Not specific goals. My biggest goal is always to continue learning and growing as an educator. I don't ever want to become stagnant. I have few ways I want to do tha ..read more

Individualized Learning with Google Forms

I wanted to give my students a formative assessment while providing remediation all at the same time? Is that even possible? It is!! Do you know those Choose Your Own Adventure books? My brother and I loved those books when we were kids! Are those even still around? I haven't seen one in forever. These books allowed you to determine what happened next in the story based on your decisions of what characters should do at critical points in the story. You can take this same basic concept to create individualized learning activities for your students using Google Forms. I made my fi ..read more

A few summers ago I attended a training for a program called Capturing Kids' Hearts! Let me tell you it was hands down the absolute best professional development I have ever had. I am such a believer in what they are doing and promoting.  It is all about building relationships and capturing kids' hearts as the name suggest. There are many different pieces to it and I couldn't possibly share all of them.   It really is something you need to attend their training to receive the full benefits. But I do want to share one aspect with you today. It's something I would venture to guess ..read more

Five of My Favorite Integer Activities
The Classy Teacher
by

Teaching integers is one of my favorite topics. Why? Because in the beginning students act as if they will NEVER understand Integers. Working with negative numbers is sooo hard and confusing. And then they get it!! Plus there are so many real life examples and activities that can be done with Integers. I love that in most pacing guides out there, at least the ones I've come in contact with, integers is taught at the beginning of the year.  It is such a great way to build that math confidence early on. Don't get me wrong, integers can be confusing and some students really struggle with t ..read more

Welcome to Room 124! Allow me to show you around. I'm going to do my best to link all the resources so if you see something you like just click on the picture.  I'm joining the #OBSERVEME movement this year.  I'm a bit nervous to have this sign outside of my room, but if I get feedback that helps me grow as an educator it will be well worth it. I  got the idea and these questions from other teachers on IG.  If you would  like a copy of my template, send me an email.  I'm happy to share it with you. Our school has a building wide tardy policy that I'm excited about.  If a st ..read more

Your Best Classroom Resource
The Classy Teacher

What is the best resource in your classroom? Is it technology? Is it your classroom library? Is it those interactive notebooks? When I asked teachers on Instagram what they believed was the number one best resource in their classroom, most of them answered with something related to physical environment. Anchor charts. Education Posters. Cute classrooms are fun.  I love to see all the hard work pay off when teachers spend countless hours  making their classroom cute and all themed out. I do a bit of that myself. But don't forget your classroom should be a resource for you ..read more

Imagine your students just completed an Exit Ticket.   Or maybe it was a quiz they just finished. You need to grade it quickly so your students can have that invaluable feedback. But you have plans tonight and there is no time for grading over 100 papers. It's easy to imagine because as teachers we've all been there. We want our students to have that immediate feedback but that stack of papers that needs grading has never been more daunting. Friends, I bring good news. Did you know you can create a quiz (or any type of assessment) using Google Forms? Y'all! It will grade ..read more
