How do you speak publicly as an anxious person?

Not sure if this is the right place, I was sifting through subreddits until I found this one, hopefully it's an okay place to ask! I work in a very narrow field, and I happen to be an expert in this niche. As a result, I've been asked to speak very publicly, and with celebrities. I'm an anxious person, and even the thought of the interview makes me sweaty. We are able to see questions in advance, and it's not live, so I am confident in my answers, but it's the nature of being filmed and talking to people who are famous that makes me nervous. I'm not used to either and I don't know how I'll re ..read more

A little info about me... I loved PR classes in college and am genuinely interested. My resume seems more marketing-focused due to my last role but I want to tailor it to PR. What can I add/do? https://preview.redd.it/215um4123xwc1.png?width=976&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8dbe60dceb2ff2c0827e57864f01aee13082c56 submitted by /u/mkaz002 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Agency interviewing advice

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice when it comes to interviewing at mid size and larger agencies. I was recently at small firm working on women’s retail brands and left cause I felt I wasn’t getting enough experience when it comes to creative strategy. I’m also looking to work with agencies with more variation in the brands they represent (food/beverage, CPG, etc). I’ve made it to the final stages with a few agencies but no offers yet. What are some good tips to keep in mind when interviewing? How would you approach answering questions like “What are you looking for in your next role ..read more

Best reasoning for photo in press kit being replaced?
Public Relations on Reddit -- It ain't advertising

In our press materials, my manager included a headshot of our executive for press to use in their interviews with him. Our agency told us the photographer of the photo contacted them to say it was copyrighted and they need to take it down (as one journo used it). We supplied another photo but our agency is asking us to provide a reason to press as to why a new photo was used. My manager is off so I can’t run it past her so was thinking of saying that the reason is that this is a more recent headshot that the executive prefers. Or is it better to not give a reason and the agency just says “Ple ..read more

When to follow up with a producer?

Okay after relentlessly pitching a local business I’m doing freelance work for, I FINALLY heard back from a host of a local morning show in the area - pitched them directly as the business is related to their advocacy work and the show has a daily segment that the business would be an incredible fit for. Host responded and said they really want to make it work, CCed a producer. Been three days and no response or follow up from the producer yet, I did respond to the initial email with a short intro and resharing my contact info. Wondering when I should follow back up? Do NOT want to lose this ..read more

Hi all. I've seen some PR stories based on the analysis of thousands of Reddit searches/ data, and was wondering the methodology and how scraping is done. How do I prepare for my first job in public relations?

Hello everyone! I just signed my offer letter for a full-time public affairs & communications internship. I start in June. I've previously worked in social media during undergrad, but I've always wanted to work in PR. What should I learn/do to prepare myself to succeed in my new role? I'm going to be working at a pretty well-known company so I'm a bit nervous about standing out and making sure I can get hired long-term. Or at the very least, making the most of the internship so I can get an offer somewhere else. submitted by /u/AtlasPatch [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pitching...

Hello! First of all, a huge thanks to some members who answered my questions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It was very helpful. It answered my questions about how to start a list of journalists. Here are some follow-up questions: How can I get the attention of US writers? There are tons of articles about pitching, but how do you really get it? The thing that I know is to keep it short like 400 words only, and bullet points. For pitching rankings, if you have any experience, what works? For example, is it best to highlight the top 10? Or the top 5? This is more of a university list ..read more
