My parents are landlords who are always struggling with their tenants. I’m tired of seeing them going through some headaches and would like to help out by renting from them. I take home each month $2,400 after tax. I work remotely so I don’t spend much on gas/car.. only bills I have at the moment are school loan, internet and phone, etc. at a total cost of $400 a month. I don’t really go out or spend money on take out food. Realistically how much can I afford of just rent? Pretty sure utilities like gas and water will be $100-200 submitted by /u/True_Broccoli4472 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does it matter who has the FSA accounts?

My husband and I are both public school teachers (in different schools). We’re expecting our second baby in the next school year, and I am planning to take a combination of paid and unpaid time off of work. Myself and our son are already on my husband’s health and dental insurance, but historically I’ve been the one to have both the dependent care and health care FSA contributions taken out of my paycheck. My paycheck next year is going to decrease substantially with my unpaid time off. Does it make more sense for my husband to get these taken from his paycheck or does it not make a differenc ..read more

I'm going to get a good amount of money from my job. Should I pay all of my car payments?

I can comfortably keep paying the installments like I have been, but I will need another 3 years to fully pay it off. If I use this money that I will earn, I'll use about 85% of it to fully pay my car. Is it better to pay off everything, or pay 50% of the installments for example. If I pay 50%, I will still have a nice reserve left. submitted by /u/YaMaCoSi [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How to end the cycle of spending my entire paycheck a month

I need some solid advice. I’m a 24F that currently earns $70k CAD a month living in Toronto. I work in HR and got really lucky with my jobs compensation, as much as there is very little work life balance. Anyway I bring home about $4k a month, which sounds more than enough but for some reason I always end up spending the entire $4k or more and I don’t know how to stop it. I don’t drive so no car payments and my parents send $1k a month to help with rent, so I feel incredibly privileged and like I am not taking ample advantage of that privilege, so I need to do better. So far, here are my basi ..read more

Missed RMD in year prior to death / Form 5329

Quick question about missed RMD's Elderly parent passed away Jan 2024, having taken RMD's since 2019 but not having taken RMD's for 2023 (illness) or 2024 (death). I understand that the RMD for 2024 should be taken by me, the non-eligible designated beneficiary (non-minor child of deceased). My question pertains to the missed RMD for 2023, what should be done in that case? Should Form 5329 be filled out on behalf of the deceased or should I fill out the 5329 and ask for a reasonable cause waiver of the penalty (and take the missed 2023 RMD myself)? Thanks in advance for your time and assistan ..read more

Should I sell my mustang or pay it off

About last year November I picked up a 2018 mustang GT for 32k. I owe about 28 left on the car and my payments are around $500/month. I have about 95k in savings and I’m wondering if I should pay it off right now or double up on payments. I wanted to buy a house in the near future which is why I’m debating keeping my cash for a strong down payment. submitted by /u/MrDylan1337 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
