Snake River Dams Don’t Provide Clean Energy
MidCurrent - Fly-Fishing News

The Snake River Dams are in the news once again, and this time they’re in the crosshairs of scientists from a group called Tell The Dam Truth (a bit on the nose, but I like it). Tell The Dam Truth just released a study that looks at claims about the clean energy produced by the Lower Snake River Dams – The Lower Granite, Little Goose, Lower Monumental, and Ice Harbor. One of the many arguments made for keeping the dams in place is the supposedly clean energy these dams produce through hydropower. According to Tell The Dam Truth, however, that energy is anything but clean. “Over the last few de ..read more

Story: Patagonia Nymphing

Dom Swentosky recently took a trip down to Patagonia, fishing with his buddy and longtime Troutbitten collaborator Austin Dando. The two had a wonderful time, and one of the best things to come out of the trip was this great story from Dom about nymphing for brown trout. The insights are typical of Dom, and as you probably suspect, there are more similarities than differences between fishing for browns in the Southern Hemisphere. You can read the story here. OnX, the popular mapping app primarily used by big game hunters, announced this week that they’ve purchased TroutRoutes. TroutRoutes is a mapping app that has mapped all designated trout streams in the Lower 48 states in America. The app also shows real-time flow data, and consolidated information about access points to make finding and fishing new water an easier task. OnX has been teasing the idea of venturing into that realm, and is launching their OnX Fish app later this spring. That app will only be available in Minnesota, however, which makes the acquisition of TroutRoutes timely. “There ..read more

Tying Tuesday: The World’s Easiest Fly
MidCurrent - Fly-Fishing News

This week’s edition of Tying Tuesday features a pattern that Cheech over at Fly Fish Food calls “the easiest fly in the world.” I’ve always thought of the zebra midge as the easiest, but this little brassie technically requires fewer materials, so perhaps it really is the world’s simplest fly. Regardless, you’ll learn a great technique for tying these bugs, so it’s worth a watch anyways. The post Tying Tuesday: The World’s Easiest Fly appeared first on MidCurrent ..read more
