So I realize this is very vague and I'm mostly just brainstorming right now. I'm really open to whatever ideas and suggestions people might have in any way. Even if it's not about specific suggestions for a career, all advice is helpful right now. I am a 39m, I have two bachelor's degrees. One in business administration and the other in the arts (social/cultural anthropology). Studying anthropology is probably the thing that fascinated me the most in life but pursuing a career in the academy has very few opportunities. I have had about 45 jobs in my life.. mostly retail and customer service b ..read more

What are some effective ways to network and build connections as a Freelance Copywriter?

I recently started freelancing after a stint at an agency. I've connected with some past colleagues and found a few online freelance communities, but I'm looking to expand my network and target clients in the tech industry (my niche). The question is: While traditional networking events can be valuable, what are some creative and effective ways to build connections with potential clients and collaborators in the tech sector specifically? For example: I was thinking of attending industry conferences or meetups focused on tech startups. Would reaching out to tech bloggers or content creators to ..read more

So currently I am getting no satisfaction from my job, I work in a somewhat healthcare related field and I know this might sound bad but I get no fulfillment from it. I spend every day bummed and lamenting the fact I am not doing something more intune with my interests, working in a field I love, spending each day doing something I find meaningful. The trouble is, everything I am interested in either has no real career related to it, or any jobs related to it are very low paying jobs.. For instance I love kayaking and being on the water, if I could be a instructor, or work at a paddlesports s ..read more

I am located in Ontario, Canada. I was terminated due to a lack of work. However, my record of employment states I was terminated during probation. I spoke to HR about this and they said because I was terminated during probation, even though it was due to a lack of work, they are leaving it as terminated during probation. I am worried this could give the implication something bad happened. Should I be worried? submitted by /u/Dry_Concentrate_3593 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Im a senior property supervisor for a PM company that just employed me 6 months ago. Prior to this I was with my employer 12+ years. In the last 6 months they fired 3 employees that were long term with no reason or notice after telling everyone in team meeting show great we all are doing. In our meeting to let us know of these lay offs, they said it’s due to “down sizing but promised the company is still strong”. The reason they kept me is because of my exceptional skills and ability to retain clients. I’m high performing and close to perfect and I’m always praised for it by my coworkers and ..read more

I have a question as I am fairly new to the corporate world and have not much experience (about 2 years). Background: I’m a 26 y/o bm working in accounting that made a pivot from working in college basketball for most of my “working” life. My question is: how long should I stay at my current company? My title is Accounting Manager (soon to be Controller). I have been here for ~4 months, but I work small/mid sized company within a dying industry (authentic leather). After being here for 4 months, I’ve realized that this place is operating paycheck to paycheck and there is no real stability wit ..read more

It feels like I have such a limited fixed mindset where all I know is few degrees that pay well but reading so many posts here. It's crazy how so many people make well over $200k maybe it's just their work experience and qualifications I guess. Being in community college and asking advisor for what to puruse is kinda frustrating feeling because all I hear is oh get your A.A transfer to a university. But I'm 27 already, I feel already so behind that I can't even see myself puruse higher education. I have too many responsibilities and can't seem to understand how to manage time like work and ac ..read more

Hi. I really need advice about some dilemma I'm going through. So a little background about myself: I finished my BSc (Accounting) in 2020 and worked as an accountant for awhile and hated every minute of it. Seeing that there's not much I can do at the time except for accounting-related roles, I decided to apply for an MSc program in International Political Economy. In 2022, I got a full-ride scholarship and had the opportunity to work as an RA for a professor. I loved it a lot and decided that academic writing especially in political science and public policy were more of my thing. Unfortuna ..read more

M. 28. USA I've worked as a software engineer for the last 5 years at one of the biggest companies in the world, but I feel entirely unfulfilled. I have always had an interest in medicine, but made poor life decisions in high school and university that didn't allow me to succeed in that route. Now I'm thinking of changing my career. But is it the right move? Let me explain. I have always been poor growing up. My parents were educated, but not very responsible with their finances. This trickled down to me, and I made poor financial decisions after another after I had moved out as an adult. I w ..read more

I work for a RE private equity firm based out of NYC that lends and invests in commercial real estate across the United States. They also have an agency business where they sell/manage loans for Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae. I joined in fall of 2021 as an analyst on the fund team making $75,000 a year plus bonus. It’s a lot of work 60 hours a week average but I have been learning a lot. In the fall of 2022 a co-worker of mine left and I have slowly taken most of not all her responsibilities. I now work with the agency team as well doing Freddie/Fannie surveillance on top of my normal job for the de ..read more
