Foster adoption story. Advice!

How do I tell my sibling this information? My sibling was adopted out of foster care. It was a traumatic experience for my mother who was also in foster care. The state gives you 6 months to have a stable job, stable income, housing, etc. My mother was placed with a horrible foster family that prevented from leaving the house. She rebelled obviously however her foster parents were abusive. During this time period, my sibling was placed with a foster family and the family immediately fell in love with them. They took my sibling on trips, had large gatherings surrounding their accomplishments ..read more

What do you call the bio-sibling of adopted kids?

So, I have two adopted siblings. My parents adopted them when they were 3 and five years old. A few years after they were adopted, their birth parents had another baby, and it was adopted by another woman. I know that she is my sister and brother’s sister, but is there some way she should be related to me? I’ve wondered this since I was a child, but never asked. Should I just call her my siblings’ sister, or is there a better term? submitted by /u/Soupy_Confusion [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

PAP first interview with care team

Hi all! Been lurking and learning perspectives here for a while but I am looking for some specific advice. My husband and I have been interested in adopting for a while and are having our first interview/conversation with a 13M’s care team next week. We were sent his “summary” late last week and it is heartbreaking. It has left me with MANY questions of my own, but having zero experience in the foster/adoption space— I would really appreciate knowing what an experienced AP would ask in the initial interview based on the following history: TPR at the age of 4 (neglect/sexual abuse) adopted ..read more

For context, I was adopted out of the States. I was recently contacted by a sibling I never knew about! It was shocking but we already have a good relationship (she lives 5 states away) What was it like for you being contacted/contacting a sibling/family member? submitted by /u/Porcupine98 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Found out I have a half sister on 23. Looking at her photo I know that she is my mom's daughter.

I recently found that I have a half sister. I found out on 23andMe. I know that she is my mom's daughter because she resembles her so much. My mom told me years ago that she was SAd, got pregnant and gave the little girl up for adoption. My mom has passed so I cannot talk to her about it. My dad is still alive and I am afraid to talk to him about it. My mom died of lupus and I feel she should know the health issues my mom had. I don't know what to do because I don't want to bring up memories of adoption if this is her. I guess what I'm looking for is suggestions. submitted by /u/Top_Morning_ ..read more

Sorry for the typos, I was rushing to work. Hello, so I am an international adoptee from Nigeria to the UK and I just want to say I am sick of adoption. I am sick and tired of adoption. If I had a wish, I would abolish international adoption. The pain that this transferring of money for a child has caused me will never be healed. I hate to adoption to the point that I would never wish it on my enemy. I hate the fact that the possibility of my bio mother being preyed on by western adoption agencies in giving up her child and being thrown a couple of pence in return is so sickening to me that i ..read more

Not adopted, but had a family member who was

Hi, I myself was not adopted, but I did have a family member who I found out was. I’m more looking for an answer on terminology. The family in question is my cousin, and he was adopted by my blood aunt, so where I am going with this is the term “blood relative” and I’d like to be educated on what everyone thinks. He had a daughter, and I believe she does not know that her father was adopted, that is I don’t think anyone told her because she mentioned to me one day that she told someone that we were blood relatives when asked about who I was and how she knows me (we do not share the same last ..read more

do you guys think there’s a correlation between not liking hugs and being adopted? for context, i was adopted at 2 years old and i think i never received hugs when i was in the orphanage. people think i’m cold but i just don’t feel comfortable giving or receiving hugs. (note: i have never been abused by my adopted family/relatives/friends) submitted by /u/FocusOk1152 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
