Hi native English speakers. I'm a nonnative English teacher working at a university in eastern China. The following are the directions I have just worded for a writing assignment to my nonnative English major students, which I would like them to complete in class next week. Would you please help me to make them sound better or even natural-sounding? Thank you very much for your help. Summarize the article “How Much Homework Is Too Much Homework?”, which you have just read, using your own words, and tell your reader whether you feel that you are still suffering from the burden of too much of a ..read more

We had played basketball for two hours when I saw you. I had waited for 30 minutes when you arrived. I had taught English in China for twenty years when I met her. She had watched TV for three hours when she fell asleep. He had worked at this company since 2008 when he quit. I had lived in Japan for eight years when I met him. I had waited for 40 minutes before the taxi arrived. She had slept in her room since 8:00 PM when she woke up. They had done their homework for two hours when their sister came home. I had run three kilometers a day for ten years before I broke my legs. submitted by ..read more

It's been pretty cool, but the problem is, I get super sleepy when I read. Today, I tried just listening to a chapter of How To Kill A Mockingbird, and guess what? I still understood like 80% of it. Now, I'm thinking, maybe if I did both at the same time, I could understand even more, like 90% or something. Plus, the Kindle has this nifty feature called the "wise word tool" that shows me the meanings of the fancy words right there on the screen. So, my question is ..read more

Hello, so I'd like to ask you people out there. How do you improve speaking. I've just finished my exam and noticed that while speaking I just zoned off. Like I just went autopilot so my answers were lackluster. I kept repeating the same words over and over again. I'm so mad at myself, because I know I can do better but at this point I didn't even pass the speaking section of the exam. I'm specifically looking for advice to help me not zone out. I think the main problem is I don't have any proper good english speakers to talk to. I tried using discord but people are usually not that good to p ..read more
