Looking for recs for home barre & mini Marley floor

Hello! I finally have room to do a little ballet setup in my home. Does anyone have recs for a barre (don’t want to install it into the wall, so something portable), and Marley floor/dancing disc type setup they especially like? The flooring will have to go on top of carpet and it’s not a permanent install, so would esp like recommendations with that in mind (I know some people put sheets of plywood down underneath, etc—if you’ve done it, would love details!) Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/NiteElf [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

An upsetting realization: it is usually bad for business for your adult students to improve in ballet

Let me just clarify this is NOT MY PERSONAL OPINION, and is obviously not always the case as there are many great schools that offer great adult ballet programs. But let me explain my concerns. Over the years we’ve discussed at length the disappointing realization that far too many adult ballet classes are not worth what they cost. They are often shoved into too short of time slot (sometimes 45 minutes ?), taught by underqualified teenagers who haven’t danced anywhere besides that studio themselves, and presented as a fun fitness alternative instead of a place to actually learn and progress i ..read more

Beginner as Early Teen

Hi I'm currently at my early teens (14) and am super confused at what my schedule should be. As much as possible, I'd like to get on pointe and perform, and am wondering what classes to take. I'm already in an adult beginners class with many other classmates, and it's been good! But should I be taking classes multiple times a week? (current class is only once a week), and should I consider private lessons in addition to the group class I have right now? I understand the time frame for me to be able to dance at a pre-professional is honestly very slim at this point, so any advice would be welc ..read more

Hey everyone, Happy Dancewear Monday! Please feel free in posting a picture of your dancewear style, your new dancewear purchase, your cute warmups, etc. Just a reminder of the guidelines: 1) It is recommended to blur out your face if you want to keep some anonymity. 2) Please list what brands you are wearing in the comments in case other users want to know where you found stuff. 3) All Dancewear Mondays will be NO CRITICISM with regards to ballet. So if someone posts a picture of them in arabesque being like “look at my cute leg warmers” DO NOT comment “Looks great but you should turn out mo ..read more

Ballet bun

so i’m having an identity crisis and want to change up my hair…i’ve been thinking of a wolf cut or butterfly cut with some type of bangs, my only issue is how i would do a bun. i already have layers so usually i keep a middle part, twist my hair and put a hair tie around it and that works fine. but im worried how even more layers and having the hair way shorter at the front would effect that “method”. any tips and ideas? submitted by /u/ebakas4 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
