I believe it’s a whelk, but what type… I have no idea. It’s larger than any I’ve seen in the area before, and it has me wondering if it’s actually local. Any ideas?

hey, current marine bio undergrad student. our school has 2 options for marine bio students to complete the organic chemistry requirement. one is the classic organic chemistry 1 + 2 track, and the other is elementary organic chemistry + introduction to biochemistry & lab. im taking the classic track because someone from our school said that you need ochem 1 + 2 for grad school. is this true? im not doing too bad in ochem right now, but it’s causing me so much stress that i can’t even imagine taking another semester of ochem. any suggestions and advice would be appreciated. thanks in advan ..read more

We pulled out a ghost net yesterday and I can't ID this vertebrae, anyone got a clue? It was on the island Rawa on the east of Malaysia. Sorry about the pictures, it was very brittle and I tried my best to put it back together properly. We do have blacktips breeding here and great barracuda.

Recently, there has been extensive coverage on the warming of the oceans and its detrimental effects on marine life's survival, among other concerns. While researching the Colossal Squid, I became curious about the impact on species that inhabit extreme environments in the deep ocean, like those in the Mariana Trench.
(I originally tried to post this to r/askscience but was unable to since I've only recently joined the group.)

Hello! I have zero knowledge of biology, but I'm wondering the name of the wavy white tubes you see nestled in some coral clusters. Here's a Finding Nemo photo of what I mean. Thank you!
