I am a Masters student just about to graduate, I know the market doesnt look so good but is it even worth wasting the time applying to big pharm/ Biotech companies? If I am not going to get someone to even look at the Resume and reject I rather spend my time in crafting resumes for companies that there are chances? This is my first time out on a job market so I am not sure. Thanks for your advice.

There are a lot of different roles in biotech, and there is not a single license, certification, or professional organization for all workers. Seems like our industry would benefit from a labor union.

Anyone have any advice for this situation?
I have 3 dotted line reports that are getting laid off on Friday. I'm not their manager but I work very closely with them. I won't be the one to tell them but if I can provide support I'm happy to provide that, just not sure how to tread here... Also not sure if they will want to hear anything or just GTFO after the are told. Thoughts?

Hello everyone,
I am nearing the completion of my undergrad in CMMB and have been interning in the process and analytical department at an mRNA biotech company. My work has primarily focused on Bioanalytics. Alongside my degree, I am taking computer science and other data analysis courses. I aim to graduate by the end of 2024, and I am likely to have two publications under my belt.
Here’s a brief overview of my current situation and plans: • Internship and Education: I'm wrapping up my internship this August and will complete my degree by the end of the fall semester.
• Research Involvement ..read more

I’m wondering if it’s a waste of time to apply as the HM have seen me in the past. But I’m not sure yet if the HM is the same. I’m just guessing. If it’s a different HM, I will be applying less pessimistic.
Of course I have nothing to lose by applying- I’m just wondering how HMs would see an unsuccessful candidate applying with them within a short period of time.
As usual, I really appreciate your inputs. Thanks everybody!

What does the shift in culture/dynamics look like when a small biotech (company X) gets acquired by big pharma (company Y)? Logistically, do company X teams/departments get restructured to be integrated into existing company Y teams? Or does company X continue operating business as usual, just with oversight from company Y?
I’m also interested in understanding pros and cons. Is this generally considered a good or bad thing for company X employees?
I’ve heard that getting acquired typically “kills the culture”. Also the major con of company X employees/functions being deemed redundant and posi ..read more

This is the same company whose had how many layoffs in the last two years? This reddit talks a lot about "The Biotech Comeback". I'm curious what people think about this news. I myself have been in Biotech for a decade. My opinion, with the huge caveat "If done correctly, by smart and capable people" this kind of integration is the equivalent of introducing automated assembly lines in the auto industry. I can see many jobs, from all functions being reduced/eliminated and never will return. Will some new niche jobs be created? Definitely, will it be enough to replenish those who lose their job ..read more

Just got a job offer at AZ Canada with base pay 135k CAD plus 17% bonus and 15 % LTI. Much lower than I expected given it’s a more senior position. What’s your experience with AZ’s compensations?
Edit: By ‘senior’, I meant more senior than my current role. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks!
